280ZX (NA) to 280ZX Turbo swap
I already painted the heat shield and the manifold. Now you want me to paint the turbo housing? I suppose next I should polish the turbine side and the intake manifold. Maybe I'll just rip it all apart now and do that...
or maybe not.
I sure hope that downpipe clears the firewall.... it looks like it goes back pretty quickly

I agree, It looks awesome Bleach! You should get it to where it's driveable right about the same time I stop driving mine in favor of the Z32
Nahhhhhhhhh, I'll still drive the 280ZX... To the parts store to get stuff for the Z32
You guys know I'm only kidding about not hardly driving the 280 right? i mean really... How could I resist the car has been through so much with me? I think the Z32 will just be like a mistress kinda thing... Maybe. Rod.

Looks like since my last post I have installed the FPR, one fuel hose, J-pipe, thermostat housing, distributor, and alternator bracket.

Awesome man, it look great! And did you use part of the trombone rail to mount the fuel regulator? If so, you gave me a great idea on mounting mine. Right now, mine is mounted on top of the valve cover. And I am unsure if the hood will clear or not. If you know, could you let me in on it? The hood is too heavy for me to pick up on my own. Carl is coming over tomorrow, and help me put it back on.
Don't want to jack your thread, anyway let me know on those questions. and can't wait to see your Z in action again!

Also, I did use parts from the factory fuel rail. I have one part that slips over the stud in the front cover. (not pictured) It spaces out the idler pully like it was meant to from the factory and I'll tie the fuel hoses to it as they come around the front of the engine. The factory FPR mount was cut out and cleaned up for that mount. I bent the tabs a little to clear the JSK rail. The other little bracket that the fuel hose goes through is also another piece of the factory fuel rail. It was part that has a plastic gromit in it that the original fuel line goes through. Cut off the bracket and remove the plastic center gromit. I was showing the closeups to give you an idea of what parts of that rail I used. It worked out great.
What Are You Doin Using That Stock Regulator For, Upgrade My Friend, Upgrade, Check Out Aeromotive's Vacuum Controled Regulator, Cheaper Than Msa's, Same Function, I Put Mine By The Fuel Filter. All Braided Lines.
Right now I'm using the stock regulator and no intercooler. I'm also keeping the boost levels low.
I will upgrade the FPR, get a recirculating BOV, and add an intercooler after I have driven the car for a while. ...maybe later this summer or fall. (if I have money at the time)

LoL... yeah, my first BOV was a 1st gen DSM BOV that I managed to recirc. After a while I put in bigger IC pipes & went w/ an aftermarket BOV that vents to the atmosphere... I gotta say, It's a lot louder than the goofy WRX's around here!
A recirculating BOV keeps your AFM closed between shifts and that keeps the fuel levels low so your spark plugs stay clean. It is the better way to do things, even if the sound is muffled a bit. Its not about how loud the BOV valve is. 250hp is still 250hp.

I honestly haven't seen any difference in a/f ratio w/ my open bov. Tho I'm runnin pig rich all the time now.
Yeah thats the main thing, if you dont recirc. with an AFM or MAS you run rich. Recirc'ing also helps keeping the compressor spooled if you direct the air correctly.
But in s/c's case it doesn't really matter since he's not using the AFM with his setup

I've been working like crazy to get my truck back on the road so I can have something to drive when I do the actual turbo swap. But as I was working on the truck today, I did some prep and threw on a few coats of paint on the valve cover.
I'm planning to polish the top edge of the letters and the frame around them.
