Normal a/f gauge works w/ stock O2 sensor... Wideband requires a wideband O2 sensor & gauge.

On our 280zx's... just tap into the single O2 sensor wire & there you go!

My first a/f gauge was a $30 AutoZone one... It worked, but I like the Autometer look a lot better, so I switched to it when I got my pod.

Hey nismopick, how much did that pod and gauges run you total? I ask cause your car is probably mad at you for not fixing the steering colum and door handle trim......I kid, but I do like that pod.

Where did you get it?

I assume you had to adapt it from some other make?

I've been looking for one that would require the least amount of modification to get it to fit on our A pillar.

HeHe... thxone: that's an old pic, and I was taking stuff apart that day... the colum cover is installed correct now.

I got that pod as a freebee from the ebayer I bought the boost gauge from. It said it was a universal pod. It didn't fit too well, so I trimmed it down & used my propane space heater to heat it & mold it to the shape of the stock 280zx pillar piece. I've got it taped on for now, but I will plasic weld it to the stock pillar piece one day.

since I have the silver indiglo gauges like Apollo, I must have only Autometer silver face gauges. Ya, I'm poor and picky. gotta love it!
Summit doesn't have silver, only white so off to AutoZone I go to spend my grocery money! thanks for the tip, Nismopick. Cheese sandwiches for the next two weeks...

That's a sweet setup man. I really dig your interior also. As for the silver on Nismopick's gauges. I will bet you he painted them, like I did mine. I am pretty sure, they never came that color. All you have to do, is take your cluster out, and paint the plastic guage display cover. Let it dry, and woila, you have a silver aluminum look. And it does look sweet in person.

Here Black, this is my gauge setup. And yes this is an older pic of my interior. I just couldn't find a recent one, that shows the gauges clearer.

I did another search and found silver face gauges on Summit. You know people are trying to sell new gauges on eBay for more than Summit charges? weird $44 ea for the silver face, yay!

Autometer makes boost gauges that go to 60psi! wow...

Yup. Think Diesel motors. Those things can take massive boost.

Now the one thing I'm still wondering. Since you're tapping the signal to the O2 sensor. If your O2 sensor isn't working, or working correctly wouldn't the A/F gauge basically be useless?

and if your O2 sensor isnt' working right, you'll be running rich because your ECU needs a working oxygen sensor.

I ordered my gauges... no more food for me now.

I do that for fun. I need to make some real money now...

I 'rebuilt' my AFM. I also rebuilt the bad AFM and that one is still bad so there's something really wrong with it... it wont' even idle good. So anyway, I also checked the TPS and it functions. There is a definite change in fuel mixture when it is rotated. No change in how the car drives. Next I'll check the fuel pressure.

You're probably thinking about a wide band O2 sensor. They're considerably more expensive than a narrow band O2. Fortunately, the stock O2 sensors on our cars are narrow band so they don't need a wide-band gauge which is also a boat load more expensive.

Those eBay gauges are totally no-name brand. I wouldn't trust a multi-thousand dollar engine to a cheap no-name brand A/F gauge...
