Urgent noob needs help with transmission
Hi everyone,
I am new to the Z32 scene. I did some research on this topic and found some potential answers, but I thought there is a good possibility that I could get a better answer here. I'm sorry if this is a repeat question and you'd be nice enough to guide to the right place I'd really appreciate it.
1993 z32 300zx NA Automatic with 135k with a (newer) transmission installed done by PO.
I drove the car the longest it has ever gone in one day today and it just happened to be 95 degrees out here in oregon. A distance of 200 miles where breaks of 1-2 hours were given at 100 miles.
Suddent out of no where I saw my tach drop to zero as if the transmission was slipping. This started out slowly and escalated to eventually no 3rd or 4th gear.
The car shifts fine 1st, 2nd, R.
I got the car towed home and it had a while to sit. Now here is twist, after the car had sat and cooled on the drive back I took it for another drive and it did the same except it did shift into a 3rd a couple times on its own.
Its like it was slipping after 2500 rpms then it would catch itself back around 5000 and the car would jump in acceleration.
When I bought this car, the transmission was not a 100 percent it seemed like it was just a bit off on the shifting points, but I didn't care because it made it seem more aggressive and did not bother me. The previous owner said something about the TPS causing this.
This has never happened before with the car, but I also have never driven it this long in this heat. Could it be heat related?
Am I completely screwed?ie new transmission
Not a single engine lights
Thanks for reading this long post.
