I have pics at home... but I'm at work right now. Just carefully cut open the Z31 ecu plugs & pull out the wires you need. It's easiest to pull the same wires from the Z31 plugs that will be going in to the 280zxt plugs... like pull pin# 12 from the Z31 plug, because it's the wire you need to insert in the empty #12 slot on the 280zxt plug. That way it's the same color coded wire that's in the Z31 schematics, and is easier to diagnose if you ever have to reference back to it.

when you say to do this, are you assuming I have a full engine/ecu harness from a Z31? I only have about 6" of wiring from the ECU, which is all I could find...

what would I have to do in this case?

That's all you're supposed to have... you strip the ends of the ecu wire & solder more wire on. Then you can take the wires to their needed location.

You did read the Z31 ecu swap guide didn't you?

hehe... yeah, that's an ICP shirt & the smilie fits perfect! And from what I've read, you can't use the stock 280zxt (nor Z31) crank angle sensor with MS...

damn then what...hmm, this sucks, my car took 3 times to start then when it did i moved it like 40 ft. and let it idle a little. Then shut it off, then turned it back on, it started then died like bogged out. Then after it was dead, it kept kicking like the car was trying to start but didn't...Man nismo you want a free zx. I'm gonna shoot it.

Dude... ok...

Between the time it stopped running & finding that the ecu wire fell out, what changes / mods did you do? Name everything you touched.

ok, took off the thing under the afm. plugged the connectionit went to, the thing under the afm, i plugged the egr and aac?. and changed the lower radiator hose.

in order
1. lower rad. hose,
stoped running the next day, the #12 pin fell out, reinstalled
2. under the afm crap, removed and plugged hole
3. plugged egr and aac?
and thats it, i'll think harder tho
4. swapped out broken speedo/tach
5. am going to change the power steering pulley right now.

oh after the car died, i took out the harness, not engine but headlight and all the other crap. I removed all unused wires, including the one that goes to the sensor for the master cyl. the only thing that isn't connected as of now, is the hose that come form the boost sensor, the water temp senso, used inline of the heater. probably a heater sensor. thats about it...oh and the car just started a little bit ago, and i tried steadly reving it up, i got to 2500 and it bogged out and died. Won't start again....

I suggest putting all that back in until you have the problem fixed or narrowed down... It makes it more difficult to diagnose a problem, if you keep taking things out, before fixing the problem.

hey, so I am to the ECU wiring stage of the swap, and I am a little confused. Following the diagrams from the ZIP file, it is hard to see where everything goes in, as not all of the plug wires have numbers associated with them.

Is there a color-coded diagram of what wires from the 280zx harness? If there is, and a link could be provided, it would make things a ton easier for me... I have the Z31 harness all properly labeled, but the 280 is another story...

Thanks in advance...

You have the Z31 wiring schematic from the ZIP right? In the top left corner it has a picture of the ecu plugs... using that, and the #'s on the 280zx ecu plugs, you should be able to find the correct wires. You only need to add two wires to the 280zx ecu plugs.... #12 & #34. You only need to add #3 if you are using the Z31 coil & wiring.

All the wires are color coded in the Hybridz writeup.

oh ok... thanks...

got the two smaller plugs done on the 280, all thats left is the 3-tier plug, but its getting dark so now I have to wait for morning... but just label that one then I can start swapping everything... get everything wired up and then just wait for the 300zx disty to come in and I will be ready to go...

after reading everything no one said if the Z31 turbo ecu has to be a manual or auto to match or not? does it matter if i have a manual and i use a turbo auto ecu?
