Worth It?
Worth It?
Alright guys... Many of you have FI. I am on the path to making some serious decisions about FI. I already have a quote from scott at VRT.
Now the question is, Is it worth it?!
I know that being FI is awesome, but in the long run.... with the amount of money that you guys have spent on the turbos/superchargers... is it really worth the money. Somthing that Im also trying to keep in mind is the over-all maint. of keeping the system up (blown seals, head gaskets, oil leaks..etc...) As at this point in time, I dont have the money to be fixing a new problem every week. Most of you have already moved on to a new daily driver, my car WILL be a daily driver... more wear for me to be worrying about.
So over-all, is it worth the money??

You know what I am going to say lol. Tuned right and on conservative boost, your car can be really reliable. you won't blow any head gaskets until over 450whp at least. You can run a JWT TT on a stock motor and safely dial it in at 390whp with little potential for things to go wrong. If you are really that worried about reliability then don't do FI. Even though you may not see any problems because of it, it does increase the risk.
I was in the same position for the longest time. I finally made that step and now my car is in San Diego with Scott at VRT. Just depends what your goal is and what you are willing to do to obtain it. I kept adding bolt-ons but that gets expensive and you don't get the performance for the price. All I got to say is once I got to ride and drive in a Z/G with the JWT TT kit I fell in love.

I would say that if you plan on keeping your Z for a few more years, then throwing on a turbo is great, almost like getting a new car. There really isn't any additional maintenance, just more potential problems. If you're not comfortable dropping over $10k on a car worth maybe $20k, don't do it. Just realize you will not get most of that $10k back.
[QUOTE=rob209]Congrats! When were you gonna let us know?

Mike already knows about this however I wasn't going to post up anything until it was officially completed. Probably won't be done for a few more weeks. Waiting sucks but defintiely worth the wait. Once I get it back there will definitely be pictures.
Also just like Rob was saying if you are comfortable with dropping 10-20k then go for it. It's a huge chunk of change that you have to be willing to give up. I thought about it and my answer is that you only live once.

Alright guys... Ive decided that Im going to go with the Stillen SC. I havnt had a chance to hear Mikes G yet, but Im sure Ill love it. Im just going to keep an eye out for a cheap SC kit and see if I can have that installed. I like the point that if anything happens to the SC, I can still drive the car without it really affecting the car. Im going to do some saving in the next 2-3 months and find a kit. Hopefully Ill have an FI car by the end of summer or just into fall.
Any Ideas on how much it will cost to have the SC installed?
