It's not legal, but the fine is relatively small right now. Odd that you mention this because I just had a long conversation with a Metro lieutenent about the fact that they are currently looking to DRASTICALLY increase penalties (they want to sieze your vehicle) for using these and I may have to go to Carson City to testify about the problems that they cause in front of the legislature. I'd recommend against it.

 

Seem like they could get you for impersonating a law officer if they wanted to push it.

Oh, forgot to mention that they are not completely undetectable as advertised. Most digital video systems will pick up IR emissions very well.

Try this, take your camera phone or digital camera, point a remote control at it and watch how brightly it lights up on your screen. You'd think that it was a flashlight.
