TT Oil Problems
I'm a newbie to this site and am amazed at what a great resource these posts are. Couldn't find my particular problem though. My '91 TT at 83,000 is starting to burn oil. I suspect it is the turbos. The car smokes when first starting in the morning and does so for about 100-200 yards, then the smoke stops until the next morning.
So I wanted to check the plugs for oil residue. To my surprise, when I got the two front plug wires pulled, I found oil in the bottom of the plug tube. On the passenger side there was just a bit of oil, but on the drivers side the oil went almost up to the ceramic of the plug. Needless to say, I stopped there and didn't remove either plug. I went to the middle set of plugs and they were perfectly dry.
Where would the oil be coming from and how in the heck do you get it out?

Re: TT Oil Problems
ok....I go to automotive mechanical school an we talked about this problem...as the guy said about the rings..well it might be but it depend on how much oil does the car loose
if alot then might be rings....because after the engene gets hot, rigs expend and they seal...if it doesn't loose too much then you might want to chek valve seals...cuz they wear out somewere close to 100K wich is about right on your TT
if you whanna check then it's a pain in the *** cuz you gonna have to pull intke and whole cylinder head....then open each valve and put some cloth in between the valve and the valve seat, make sure you chek all valves cuz if one is bad then others might be too, if you see oil on any of the valves then you found your problem...oh yeah! last thing meke sure you tell the difference betwin oil and carbin on the exhaust valves. It wouldn't be a bad idea to get the exhaust valves out and get all the carbin out of there.... after 83K it might give you better exhaust flow

Re: TT Oil Problems
I think I'm chasing too many problems at once here. First of all, I feel confident that most of the oil consumption is coming from the turbo seals, but will know more after a compression and leakdown test next week.
What has all of us stumped is the oil in the front two plug tubes. The plugs are in tight so it isn't coming from the cylinders. The oil here may not be part of the oil consumption problem, because guys who know more about it than I do, are saying there is no possible source for oil to get in to that part of the engine. Agreed?
