'82 ZX problems
Hi everyone, I've never been a forum guy but I've really got to get someone else's opinion.
SO, I picked up this 1982 280zx with 114k on the dash out of an old retiree's garage where it had sat for 7 years in silent dusty solitude.
I've had a few 240sx's in the past, even swapped an RB series into one of them on my own, so I have some experience with how nissan does things under the hood.
As soon as I got the car I replaced the clutch master/slave cylinders, broke the rusted clutch free from the flywheel, replaced the fuel pump along with the inlet/outlet hoses, and return line hoses, the fuel filter with hoses, all 6 injectors, spark plugs, fuel pressure regulator, water pump, and thermostat.
When I first got the car it wouldn't really do much of anything but turn over,
but now with what I have replaced it will idle fine, but when you give it throttle it takes a crap.
Things you should know: The fuel pump is seriously loud, I know that apparently all ZX fuel pumps are loud, but it's REALLY loud.
I HAVE used the search button on every forum I have found, google, etc., and I have checked the TPS, and AFM, and both seem to be working properly.
The only thing that I am unfamiliar is, is timing on the ZX.
Fusible links are good, fuel pump relay good, ignition/coil good.
Now, today, it wouldn't rev past 2500rpms at all really, it just shakes and dies out.
It even backfired out the intake a time or two.
I took the spark plugs out to take a look at them earlier and cleaned them off, put them back in, and then the car would rev up to 5000rpms
with no delay, lag, sputtering, or anything, for about 2 minutes, and then it went back to dying when throttled.
I've read and read and read and most things come down to the TPS or timing,
and my TPS is working as it should.
Any ideas?
Here is a short video I took to try and help explain.
