i have a 79 280zx and when the car is idling and the door is shut the door ajar light stays on and the lights under the dash stay on... but when i open the door the door ajar light goes off and the lights under the dash go off... does anyone have any suggestions as to what it may be?

 

sounds like it could be the door jamb switch that the door hits when it closes or the wiring to it

 

well i guess when the door is closed the light is on but its real dim... then when you open the door it gets brighter

 

sounds like the switch is goin bad cuz it could be gettin a bad connection when the door closes and still sendin some current to the light
