I replaced the Alt. the 18= volt went away. but still no charge. ran a wire from Batt terminal on Alt to battery. it seems to be stable. but at throttle only 12 volts. under full load. 10. and the lil red light is always on.

Where are you getting these alternators from? Are they stock replacements? Have you had them check it on the machine before installing it?

the battery has fuseable links in that little black box by the battery. the reason it is saying low voltage after that wire is installed is due to the fact its back feeding to power the dash stuff. there are 2 wires connecting in the harness by the battery. they are 12 ga. and white. if you follow the wire from the alt. upward, you will see the juction near the batt. its kinda hokey and usually corrodid. i took the white wire from under the dash and routed it to my maxi fuse panel under the hood. that way it feeds straight from the battery. then the alt only has one 4 ga. wire up to the batt via a large 120 amp breaker. i wish i was better at pix, but i could draw the thing up for you.

GM 1 wire alt in for over a year and running strong. The alt doesn't charge unless the rpm is over 860. Very easy install too.
