Question Auto to Manual Swap

Ok, I have used the "search" button this morning and last night but I cannot find the answers I am looking for. I am going to list the things I think I need to do a 5 speed tranny swap for my 82 coupe, please let me know if I miss something and if you have any knowlege of the proper way to put it in that would help alot, you know things people may miss or forget to do when they do a swap.

1. A 5 speed Tranny
2. Clutch and flywheel
3. Driveshaft
4. Manual pedals
5. Shifter
6. Clutch master and slave cylinder(s)
7. Clutch alignment tool
8 Starter???

Now is there anything else that you can think of that I need besides tools? I will have a 1980 5 speed 2+2 to reference from but I won't be able to take it apart. So anything that will make it easier such as "make sure you do this first" or "don't forget to...." I know these questions have probably been ask before but I can only search and read so much before my eyes want to pop out of my head. Now I don't mind later on re-writing all the suggestions and re-posting as a step by step thing for others to go by...might make things easier.

I have a 2-seater driveshaft for both Nissan 5-speed and T5. I'm not sure if your car is turbo or not. if you end up needing to buy the driveshaft separate.

I also heard that you need to swap the whole pedal assembly as a whole. Unbolt it from the firewall; don't try to just swap out the brake and clutch pedals.

You will also need the hydralic line that runs from the clutch master along the firewall to the slave cylinder; rubber hose too for the clutch slave.

No it is not a turbo...I don't know why it has a turbo hood on it but it looks good. I was thinking the tranny mount would also need to be changed..is that so?

Now we are getting somewhere, this is the tech stuff I need.

you tell me then.
turbo 2+2 driveshaft on top
turbo coupe driveshaft on bottom

can I use the 2-seater one in my 2+2 T5 conversion? The longer driveshaft fit just perfect.

All 1982-83 280ZX's had the larger turbo hood scoops.

Nope. Nearly every tranny and every body used a different drive shaft.

ie.
2+2 Turbo 5-speed only fits a 2+2 Turbo 5-speed
Coupe Turbo 5-speed only fits a Coupe Turbo 5-speed
2+2 NA 5-speed only fits a 2+2 NA 5-speed
Coupe NA 5-speed only fits a Coupe NA 5-speed

The only one that will work with more than one config are the Auto's.
Coupe Turbo Auto will work with the Coupe NA Auto
2+2 Turbo Auto will work with the 2+2 NA Auto

All 82 - 83 280zx's had the turbo hood... whether or not is was a turbo.

Well, I have a 1980 280zx NA 5-speed 2 Seater if you end up needing anymore parts but, you'd have to be quick about claiming things.

What about the tranny mount? Is it the same as the 5 speed or is some fab work needed there. So as to make sure this is correct, use a turbo 5 speed driveshaft, make sure to switch out the entire auto pedals for the entire manual pedals, hydraulic lines for the master and slave cylinders...other then that is it a pretty straight forward swap? I still need to know if my starter is still ok to use. Also I have noticed with horribly low profile tires and the 3 speed auto I am slightly over 20mpg...is it safe to say with the 5 speed and proper diameter tires I could see 25mpg+??? R180 with I belive 3:54.1 gear.....should be around 25 or more right? And being this is prudent to mention, the tag under my armrest says that my 2 seater is supposed to have 205/70R14 tires not the 195/70r14's that have I have seen we are supposed to have. I think it came from another car because it is black and my interior is red, did the turbo "coupes" come with 205/70's?

You can ONLY use the turbo driveshaft if you intall the T5 (which only came in the turbo cars). If you're going with the standard Nissan 5 speed (found in all the NA manual cars) then you'll need an NA 5 speed trans. If you go with the standard 5 speed then you wont need to swap your tranny mount. Nissan only has one part number for tranny mounts on the NA cars. I dont know if the T5 needs a different mount though.

And every single 280zx, turbo or na, manual or automatic, used the exact same starter.
