I have an '83 ZX, but I think that the fix is the same. If it isn't then slap me.
Under the glove box (if you don't want to rip out the dash you have to contort your body to see this...) there should be a fuse. Not a plastic plug-in type, but a glass tube type fuse that kind of looks like the dome light. Check that out. Also, you might want to look at your relays.
If that doesn't work, I can't help you. I'm not too familiar with your model year.
