z problems
all you guys have been such a big help so far. I appreciate it. I have a few more questions.
My first is this: every time I put the shifter into the 1st gear position with the clutch in at low speeds, I hear this low growling sound. Any ideas?
My second question is what is the best way to go about fixing an exhaust leak that is under cyl 5 and 6 where the header connects to the head? Should I try to patch it and if so, with what? Would it just be better to break the weld and realign and reweld?
My third and last is what kind of bhp increase am I looking at if I switch from su carbs with air horns and gross jets to triple webers with the same air horns/jets etc?

Re: z problems
Itīs got to be the release bearing (I think thatsīs what itīs called) Itīs fairly easy to replace (just takes a few hours because you got to remove the gearbox)and if it breakes nothing else will brake because of it. /Fredrik

Re: z problems
The bearing is a Thrust Bearing when u press the clutch is throws it into the clutch.
Is there a hole in your exhaust or is the gasket gone. If you manifold is stuffed get another not worth fixing if it's a gasket your best way to fix it is remove the intake manifold and then you can remove the exhaust manifold. Might wanna use some form of gasket gue aswell or have someone match the exhaust manifold to the exhaust ports.
Tripple webbers won't do much without other modifications such as larger cam, extractors, port and polish etc. You can get SU's going fairly hard provided there the early 240z type not the flat top's and you get bigger needles.
PS: You can get a Z into 12 Seconds 1/4's with just SU's.
Webbers are good but expensive and you'll use alot of fuel I'd only recommend them for track use.

yer thats its... release bearing.. thurst bearing.. watever u wanna call it thats what it is..
agreed about the webbers.. for track use etc.. or varied weekend driving only..
if its the exhaust gasket which is gone, buy a new gasket.. and when u restart the car, check to see where a leak is if there is a new leak.. don't rev it or else u'll blow the gasket
