I've done it with a sport bike before. Got a good deal and wasn't hard to fix just depends on what happened to cause it to have a salvage title in the first place.

I don't know how it is in Cali but in Missouri even after you fix it and get a clear title it will still say "prior salvage" on the title so the vehicle will never be worth as much.

If you know the car's fixed up in good condition then it can be a good deal as long as you buy it cheap because you're gonna have to sell it cheap when the time comes due to the salvage title.

If you buy it cheap to drive it forever and not care about re-selling it, then it's an even better deal.

My Z has a salvage title. I don't really care, because 'm not selling it.

You should check with your local DMV and find out if you can get a new clear title. Sometimes it's just a matter of a safety inspection. Also check with your insurance company, some won't give collision or theft on a salvage title. As for the value just decide if you want it or not.

Merged threads and changed to a meaningful title... no need for 3 threads asking the same thing.

I would own it if I planned on keeping it forever. and there was no frame damage. But I am big into value, so I doubt I would ever do it. No matter what the reason it has a salvage title, it will always be worth MUUUUCH less. And I'd say that car if it's in pretty good condition, with those miles, and it isn't a turbo, with the salvage title, it prob wont ever sell for over 3 grand.

I'd never buy one under any circumstances; spending several thousand dollars on any used car involves risk, and there are far too many used cars out there to even consider buying a salvage car.

I guess my question is whether a Z abandoned by its owner in a flood could end up with a salvage title. Owner's insurance pays, sells the car for salvage to a tow truck. Flood waters would seriously screw up the car's electronics, even if the salvaging mechanic is good enough to get it running again. I would definitely avoid a flood victim Z. Problems could go on for years
