Hard Luck Stories... I'll go first

This ought to cheer you all up. A whole lot of bad crap that happened to me last year is the reason I restored my Z to its present state:

Last year my (freshly painted w/ brand new motor) 85 Monte Carlo SS was stolen from my driveway. The following day I got a call from Stockton PD saying they found it and gave me the towyard where it was taken to. Apparently the guy stole it for a freaking joyride, took it into a gravel field and did donuts with it until the tires shredded. I talked to the towyard, they said if I come right down, they would park it on the street and not charge me a storage fee, just the retrieval fee. So my dad and I drove to Stockton to get it.

Looked it over, it seemed OK other than the shredded tires and F'ed up fender paint, and they popped the hood and took the Carb. A bit of relief, since I had a spare carb at home and tires are easy enough to replace. At least I got the car back.

Well, Since the towyard was also a AAA Service, we decided to have them tow the car back to my house... but their flatbed was out on a call and couldnt do it for about a half hour. Fine, paid for retrieval fee, set it up for AAA towing and drove back home to make room for the car.

I didnt even make it home before my cell phone rang and the towing company says, "Your car caught fire and burned up. The fire dept came and put the car out."

For a second, the tv show Overhaulin came to mind, but no such luck. Apparently, instead of the flatbed driver winching and pulling the car onto the flatbed, he tried to fire it up and drive it on. Remember, no carb... Gas leaks everywhere and up it goes.

They claimed otherwise, that it just went up by itself, but it was fine when we looked at it, we even told the worker inside about the missing carb, but I guess that bit of insight never made it to the driver. They also said since it was on the street, they were not responsible. After a couple of months arguing with them and getting nowhere, I turned my energy toward my Z which had been sitting for years.

The End

i got arrested 2 weeks ago for minor consumption, for drinking 1 beer, and blowing a .01 an hour later. our PD made 8 of us stay in a holding cell for at least 3 hours, then we singally got released(no bail for 5 of us). since we were released, none of us have gotten our court papers yet.
and i found out later that my friend was let off with a .01 at the same party.

in a twisted way, a brand new car getting blemished early on is better, because the owner doesn't have to fear that their brand new car might get blemished. no more stress, right?

I think that towing company's building should just "set itself on fire" one night...

I refuse to drive a blemished, new $30K car. First time I got hit, in the shop. Second time, in the shop. Third time, guy lies to his insurance (he backed into me, says I rear-ended him), now I'm suing him.

Actually that thought did run thru my head. but like i said this towyard is in Stockton. a run down part of Stockton. Like theres any other part (no offense to any locals...) I don't like drama. even when it finds me.

Towing company was pretty lowbrow, Fire Dept report said unknown cause.

AAA wouldn't even talk to me, because they only authorize the use of AAA road service. No other connection to the company.

Damn. That sucks, drlew. I dont see how the tow co. isnt responsable. Is your chevy covered by your own insurance? Are you following up with any legal actions?
