How about an affordable, practical commuter electric car. Not another million dollar race car.

Get one that goes 400 miles on a charge and can cruise at 70mph with ease. I don't care if it does the quarter mile in 11 seconds. 16 second 1/4 would be plenty fast enough for a street car.

Time for you to build one. The technology is already available... but until the government gets their act together and supports fully electric cars, the cost to produce them will be the limiting factor.

Ive been researching making your own electric car..and from what ive seen...the DIY crowd has gotten it to the point of 80 miles/per charge with top speeds between 50-75..and these are the people piece mealing it together. The best one i saw was an s10 that had like 24 batteries in it. check out www.evalbum.com

Nice find! But I think they need to be focusing on better batteries. I dunno if a car battery can hold that kind of drain and charge for an extended time.

Bio deisel costs more than fossil fuels and if I wanted just 40mpg I could get that on a pure gasoline car.
I might just build one. I'd like to get totally way from "fuel" and not just for enviromental reasons.

bio diesel doesnt cost more!!!!! are you nutty! its made from old vegatable oil that is given away for free! you can buy your own still type thing to make your own bio diesel and after the stuff needed to create it you get like a little under a dollar per gallon i believe. trust me they did it on trucks about 2 years ago. i paid ever so close attention

^^^ You're still living in 2005 when no one had heard of bio fuels and you could still get used vegetable oil for free. Do you think people are going to give away that oil today???

Also... you should watch the news / check the intra webs. Bio fuels aren't all they were talked up to be.

#1... it burns less efficiently than gasoline
#2... takes more energy to create
#3... takes away food farm land
#4... farmers are chopping down forest space to make farm land (less year round trees = less plants to remove CO2 from the atmosphere)
#5... the price of corn skyrockets because it's now more precious (corn makes a lot of diff types of food).

The list goes on and on.

agreed, biodiesel is a crock.

snw: biodiesel and waste veggie oil are not the same thing. you get biodiesel at the gas station, and it's expensive.

nismo: people still give WVO away for free. my uncle converted an F250 4x4 to run on both regular diesel and WVO. the truck has twin tanks, and he uses one for each fuel. there are a couple of restaurants that gladly give him their WVO so they don't have to pay to have it disposed of. the teriyaki restaurant he goes to is so happy about it that they make him free food.

i think you guys are getting confused. biodiesel is the wasted veggie oil, bio fuel is like that flex fuel BS that made corn go up what was it ae85 or some crap were they used corn and gasoline together in an enthanol type blend. that was the problematic fuel. im talking about creating diesel (no other type of fuel) from wasted cookin oils.

i can go down to the gas stations down the street and buy BIODIESEL from the pump. running WVO requires modifications to the engine, and a fuel heating system.

I just need to find a way to make cheap electricity at home.
Maybe buy a house by a stream and create my own little dam.
..solar cells on the roof...
