Sounds to me like the screens in the MAF's are basically doing the same job that the tornado thingies would have done.

Yes, it'll run like ****, but it'll pass smog. It'll only knock if I'm running in boost; which I obviously wouldn't. The plan is to run the car nearly out of gas, put in just enough 87 to get me to and from the smog shop. then I fill it up with 91 again.

You're the chosen one because you don't think before posting. You should try it sometime.

well also they have that stuff i forgot what it is called, but you can but it at the store they say it will help make you pass smog, also they will pay if you are rejected the price i beleave of you inspection also make sure you get your cat up to temp or you might fail maybe if you have adjustible fuel presure regulator turn the presure down anuff to lean it out a little but but in the safe range, and the timing

I've read that type of fuel additive is basically an octane reducer, so it's basically the same thing.

I don't have an adjustable FPR. I've also read I can disconnect the vacuum line to the fuel dampener. There are a lot of things to do 'make it pass'. Up to this point I've always wanted to find the problem and fix it. Now I've found out that with my mods, it likely won't pass smog anyways. So, it seems I don't have a problem. I just need to find a shop that will work with me.

ok well i'll try and help ya out with anything i can share and what i might think that can help you. I love how you did your ride up, it's sweet! wait until you check mine out when im done. But anyway, what kind of ecu program are you running, injector size, and do you have high flow cats or normal stock cats? The FPR is very important for idle when use upgraded turbos, injectors and so on. It helps reduce the fuel at idle, and when boosted it will raise pressure for optimal fuel delivery. I recommend the aeromotive fuel regulator, it's an awesome regulator. also, the dampener sometimes goes bad if you haven't changed both of the stock regulator and dampener. when you built your power plant, i recommend at least the FPR to no cheaper then NISMO so you can set the fuel pressure.

DAMM smog jerks i hope What i have said helps you out bro hit me back if you want to ask something I'll tell you want I know, or what I might think about what your asking. I'm pritty good at figuring out hard stuff. I hope you pass bro good luck

make a new thread about your Z. im curious

also, if you install an adj FPR, fuel maps will need to be tuned to use it properly.
i say, just get it done, smog it, and enjoy it for now. its been too long

you do not realy have to tune fuel maps, you just want the fuel pressure to be controled better and be at the proper fuel pressure for your injectors

I washed it and parked it nicely in the garage so that I can work on it when I have more time, money and patience.

Amy and I just sunk about $85k into our house (pool, landscaping, concrete), so the Z has taken a backseat for now. I figure if I don't do much with the Z, then Amy won't nag me to get rid of it...j/k...I think she knows that if she ever she did that, I'd smack her with a shovel and feed her to my catfish.

The east coast is pretty far from Cali.
