A/C issues...

A/C in my '91 2+2 is blowing warm humid air when temp goes above 50%. Driving at high RPM (3500 - 4) appears to help cool things down (why, I have no idea) and brings A/C back on. Radiator is not blocked. Fan works. Any ideas?

The temp goes down cuz you're moving and moving forces air over the radiator and cools the car's engine and other parts.

Sounds like the A/C is finally running out of R12 refridgerant. You might wanna look into having your car retro fitted to the newer R134 refridgerant.

Thanks for the reply. My mechanic felt the same way. Unfortunately now the A/C barely works. Mechanic is undoing the retro fit and replacing the R12. More unfortunate is the cost of replacing the R12 and still having the same problem.

if you're experiencing the same problem even after the recharge, either you're have a leak somewhere or the compressor is going. Have your mechanic check it out.

If it's blowing humid air, then your AC drier may be clogged or on it's way out. The drier is fairly inexpensive, but like most parts on this car, the labor to install it will be expensive. If it's your compressor, then search junkyards. You could probably pick 1 up for $150 or so.
