Oil Cooler and Synthetic oil questions

Have a few questions on adding an oil cooler for my 88T. One, Im runnin pretty hot on my oil temperature roughly 280 degrees. Two, i just rebuilt my heads and was wondering if using Royal Purple XPR10W40 oil was okay for initial break in, along with RYP 80-90 in manual transmission and LSD? (Tranny n CLSD minor work done to them, not rebuilt yet) Since i rebuilt my heads ive noticed ive restored a lot of lost power but now heating up. Currently im using Castrol High Mileage 10w40.

-Is there a good oil cooler on the market to use or has noticable results? (Thinkin on a Hayden or Flexlite)

-Where is a great location to install it? ( Was thinkin, in the wheel well, like the automatic 88T has it or where i want is in between the intercooler and radiator)

PS
Will post pics soon of my work from majority of these write ups.

I would test the resistance on the oil temp gauge and wiring, before jumping to conclusions. I doubt you are seeing anything more then 220* on the street.

Checked out alright? As in it's 220 degrees or 280 degrees?

I have the same prob on my 280ZXT... the oil temp gauge reads close to 300* at running temp, but my infrared thermometer reads 205 at the side of the oil pan. I replaced my oil temp sensor, so next I'll be replacing my gauge pod.

the guage checked out good and works properly. unfortunately i am unable to check it with infared due to my heater core explodin inside the cab and sprayin coolant all over the carpets. I do plan to check it again when i have everything put back together with an infared. Dawned on me right when ya mentioned about ya problem. I too believe my gauge is reading lower than what its suppose to. due to this later set back with HC it would have to wait to get a positive confirmation on the oil temp sensor and guage.

i installed the hayden medium duty cooler it was like $ 100 and the temp has stayed pretty much below 200 even on the freeways, but i installed it sandwiched between the a/c condenser and the little fan in the middle of the grille. well worth the investment i think good luck with the install.
