Guys,

I am going to go look at a 300zx tomorrow w/ 160,000 miles on it, and a rebuild tranny. To purchase.

I've never looked at a 300zx so what should I look out for?

The same thing for any car...

Look for rust, worn out parts, & abuse.

 

the z31's tend to rust out in the back where the spare tire is and also on the opposite side of that just lift up the rear carpet a little to check. The tail lights leak and thats how they rust, i'v seen this on 3 Z31's other then mine. Mine was leaking so bad every time it rained i had to sponge water out of the back of my car. good luck

springs are probably shot common z31 problemo. look at rear wheels and see if they are leaning in a lot. You didn't say what year turbo or not. Depends on what you want to pay for it. my z31 85 turbo cost 2200. body was in good shape minor rust in rear as detailed above. figure on suspension mods these were designed to be boulevard cruisers. the turbos move pretty good friend of mine got his to dyno at 300 rear wheels. mine dynos at 185 stock and it is old enough to drink.
