Digital Dash: individual components shorting out

Digital Dash: individual components shorting out
1985 300ZX Turbo 2+2
For the most part, the digital dash works fine. However, around half the time trip odometer, oil pressure gauge, or battery gauge will completely turn off.
The tach and mph always work, never had a problem with them.
The trip odometer will keep tracking how far I've driven, but just completely shut off the display (includes the average speed and distance to empty).
When either the oil pressure or battery gauge stop working, they both still show up just register as the oil pressure at 0 and battery at full.
I ran the self-diagnostics on it, and it all works fine except the trip odometer at the bottom.
My friend thinks its either a ground or power problem. What do you think? I know digital dash problems are common, but is this one different?

do a search on repairing the power supply for the digi dash and do that first. Z gages notoriously unreliable. generally the sender is shot. those trip meters and stuff on the lower right are generally dim by this time. I can barely see em on my 86. you could pull the module and plug/unplug stuff along with a dose of Deoxit may help. when I did that to the digi climate control it made things somewhat more readable.

Thanks! I took out the panel under the steering wheel and can see the power supply box. From what I've read elsewhere, that seems to be one of the common culprits for dash problems. If I remove it, what should I expect to see? Should I try and order a new one or see if I can fix this one?
