Question regarding removal of dash components.
Hello All,
I'm working on my project car and am in the process of changing out my dash (1972 240z). I'm having a little trouble. I'm new at this, so please bare with me.
I've completely removed all the gauges and wires, but am stuck with the two ***** below the driver side. One for resetting the trip meter and the other for adjusting the brightness of the lights in the gauges.
I'm not sure how to remove these. Can someone please let me know?
Thanks in advance.

I've figured it out. It's just what I thought it would be. Simply pulling the **** out. The guy who sold me the car had it glued on, so I had a very difficult time taking it off without cracking it.

If you need or want to completely remove the trip reset cable, you have to pull the spring/slinky housing back from the set-screw clamp at the odometer end and very carefully drill out the crimps. Reinstallation is done by trimming a little of the housing, tinning the cable, using a lot of good flux and flowing solder back into the drilled holes, fixing the clamp back to the cable. It's kind of a pain, so don't do it if you don't have to.

Hmm, the **** on the trip is really difficult to get off - a factory-type glue, and the one that dims the interior lights, it's a push-in-and-twist-off type of contraption. Glad you got them off.

I wasn't entirely sure if he was going for a full removal or not, but figured the cable removal procedure was good info to have on here both in his case and for future searching.
This reminds me, it might not be ridiculously cold in the garage this weekend. Maybe I can get my speedo cable hooked back up to my re-installed dash and do some wiring work.
