Transmission

Hey guys as some of you know I'm getting ready to put my motor back in my car and I want to get the transmission ready to go before i drop the engine in. I was looking and I was wondering what the difference is between the 1980 5speed and the 1981 5speed. is the gear ratios different or something and if so which one would be better to use..

Yes, the gear ratios are different, but not by much:

......77-79.....1980.....81-83.....Borg Warner T-5 {Turbo Only]
1....3.321.....3.062.....3.062.....3.500
2....2.077.....1.858.....1.858.....2.144
3....1.308.....1.308.....1.308.....1.375
4....1.000.....1.000.....1.000.....1.000
5....0.864.....0.773.....0.745.....0.780

the .745 of the '81+ 5 speed will get allow you a few more mph at the top end and is also slightly better for gas mileage vs. the 0.773 of the '80. Will you notice the difference? Probably not

hey everyone i put my transmission back in the car tonight but i'm curious as to why it doesn't look like its sitting back far enough, where is the shifter supposed to sit inside the hole about center? Mine sits really far foreward like half an inch before the front of the opening whenits in gear... thoughts on how to get it back farther?

Use an impact gun that has a high torque rating.
