I'm slowly making progress on my winter project and while doing an overall tune-up, I would change the brakes and rotors. I ordered the following Beck/Arnley front rotors from rockauto More Information for BECK/ARNLEY 0833382 but they are to wide. When installed, the outer portion of the cylinder body is compressed against the rotor preventing it from turning.

The information from rockauto is that these rotors are OEM replacements and do not require turning prior to use. Does anyone have any experience with this type of situation? Should I get different rotors, if so do you recommend any from rockauto? If it helps, I have a 1982 N/A 2+2.

 

did you fully depress the piston into the caliper before putting things back together? how do the old rotors compare to the new. Rotors don't wear down a lot. download the fsm from xenon and then read it. Got all that stuff in there.

 

Yes, the piston is fully compressed and I haven't put pads back in, just getting the assembly mounted. It's actually the cylinder body that is hitting the rotor when mounted. I have referenced the FSM and Haynes manuals and looks to be assembled correctly as there are only two bolt that mount the cylinder body. That being said, the new rotors are just shy of 20mm, which is the standard thickness, so I'm not sure what's wrong. The old rotors are about 17mm thick so definitely needed replacement.

 

I thought a photo would be helpful, I have highlighted the areas that are caught. I have reassembled exactly as I found everything but it looks like the rotor is shifted to the right. Could the previous owner forgot to include any parts?

 

Is the Hub and rotor inserted all the way in?

 

It seems to be, the nut holding the hub on cleared the hole for the pin but I'll confirm tonight after work.

 

One hint always take pics before you dissassemble. when the son and I did the brakes on his chrysler sebring we would have had a dificult time getting things back together without reference pics. I'd maybe call around and locate caliper at auto parts store and then compare those to make sure the caliper is standard. and as corbith said is the rotor mounted correctly?

 

This may not be of help with your current situation but i have had bad luck with RockAuto and no longer use them. they have sent me mislabeled tie rods, incorrect headlights, incorrect brake shims and more so i no longer use them. it could be the wrong rotor, or just a simple step your missing. Just as an update, this was caused by an oversight on my part... I put new wheel bearings in while I had the hubs off and apparently didn't have the metal bearing cone properly seated for the inner bearing.
