Injector Question

Guys/Girls,

I am thinking about rebuilding the engine!

I am thinking about boring it and stroking it as large as I can get it, I have a few questions.

A) Anyone know of a kit that I could use, and if I was to ever upgrade the turbo or run NOS the internals could take it?

B) Would I need to upgrade the injectors when I go to bore it?

C) Am I missing anything that I should be aware of?

Merry Christmas,

You're going to do exactly what I've done, almost done, to my engine.

Here's the link to what I've done so far.

I'll be getting my engine back the second week of January, so that's the x-mas present to me!

You dont have to upgrade your injectors if your going to "bore" it. The stock injectors can only handle so much though. We really need to know what your horsepower goals are for the car, and what you plan to do with it. And if you go with larger injectors your going to need to go with some type of aftermarket engine management system.

and yeah. For the money there is pretty much no reason to go with a stroker motor. Like I said, we need to know your exact goals for the car then I can tell you exactly what you need.

Well this information has been good to know! I my goals? Not really any just looking for a little more umph out of the engine, but I don't want to drop a ton of a money. I guess I'll just have it rebuild to stock, and call it quits!

Thanks for the information.

Yeah... building a turbo stroker deffinately ISN'T the best way to spend your $$$ if you want "a little more umph." Not to mention the labor ( and time seaching for the right parts) of building one.

If you want "a lil more umph" get:

-an electronic boost controller
-small to midsize intercooler
-do the Z31T ecu swap.

You'll be over 200whp & that should give you plenty of the "umph" you're looking for.

Is it a plug and play ECU? Also, what year is best to use?

And does it matter if I use a manual controller vs. a computer to control the boost?

electronic boost controller is the safest and most accurate way to go. some of the newer ones though are gay adn only let you boost to 25 psi unlike their predecessors that would allow all the way to 40. i forget which controller that was but it was a popular one

For the ECU it's not exactly plug and play but close. You need the chopper wheel from a Z31 Dizzy, an 84-85 Turbo ECU, and a MAF along with I believe parts of the wiring harness. It involves switching the AFM to the MAF which is alot more accurate and efficient. Plus it has better fuel maps? I hear the problem with later ECUs is the O2 sensor, so unless you can fab up a special downpipe to use the later Z31 O2 sensors, them you're better off sticking with the earlier years.

Thank you!

A few odd questions!

A) Has anyone heard or used plugs called E3?

B) The previous owner of the car has a few misc. items in a box for me when I bought the car, and I am doing a complete sespension overhaul. Well the "side rods" that he gave me have no greese fittings on them?

C) I can not figure out for the life of me how to get the side rods off? Is it as easy as it looks just using two wrenches and going at it?

Thanks,
wgc_3

A... You talking about "E3 spark plugs?" that supposedly save fuel.... don't waste your money. NGK's are the only plugs that go in the Z's.

B & C... what are "side rods?"

nismo is right the NGK's are best for the Z's. Don't run the dual tripple or quad plugs eather. Lots of ppl say they can fell a dff with them but they are made for newer model car's and tucks. not our old tech engine's. I runs NGK R's and Denso's. The E3's will work in a Z, but they will do the same thing as a stock plug. best thing to do, is get NGK's and upgrade your iggy system with stronger coil. and you will be happy

Good to know about plugs! Thank you.

According to the Z service manual that is what they're called?!

I've always called them tie rods, they connect the wheel and the steering system. Its the rod after the boot and before the wheel.

Is it as easy to remove as it looks?

A wrench on the tie rod, and a wrench on the steering rod?

Catch 22:

You'll never get it running right without putting in the NGK's

Rod.
