280ZX Turbo - No spark, no needle bounce.

Greetings all, I guess the title says it all. Drove my car just fine this morning to work. Lunch time rolled around, and my car cranks for days but I get no spark off of the coil. My tach needle doesn't bounce when cranking either, and I'm suspecting that it's the ignition control module. I plan on doing the GM HEI swap at this time. Before I go spend the $30 or so on the parts, should I be looking at anything else here?

Thanks.

Fixed. Skittle's GM HEI DIY is the bee's knees. Took all of 15 minutes, and I have a retarded big blue spark.

You use a GM HEI module to replace the stock turbo ignitor module

where may I ask is the stock the ignition control module, located on an 83 turbo? my car after it gets hot it just runs rough clears up and just dies
My tach needle doesn't bounce when cranking either, let it set for a few hrs
she cranked so i drove it home about 20 miles @ night... two weeks later drove it about five miles ate breakfast came out 30 min later same thing would not start(My tach needle did not bounce when cranking either. then after about 10min she cranked

will the control module act like this (heatsink) or do they just go out all together.
and what about the crank positioning sensor if its going out will it act like this.

ICM is right next to the coil, can't miss it. It's wired to the + and - side of the coil. They can fail when they get hot, or they can fail at random.

its just a power transistor nothing exotic. takes the place of a set of points in old car ignition systems. you need to make/break the current to a coil to get the spark.

Tell them you need one for a 1980 Chevette. It's a pretty standard part. If you go in and say, "I need a GM HEI module," they'll probably hand you an Accel or Pertronix part, which is

I have that...it has the "yellow wire to ecu" but doesn't say which wire to hook that to. There are the two wires that plug into the old ignitor but there is also a blue wire that has a bullet looking connector...

Still nothing...guess it's the coil....I can pull the coil wire off and lay it near the shock tower bolt and get no spark....

Did you mount the HEI module to anything? It HAS TO BE GROUNDED through the mounting holes to the chassis. I screwed mine to my shock tower. Skittle made a bracket.

If you don't ground the module itself you will get no spark, and you probably fried the module.

I mounted it to vented plate with one bolt/lock washer/nut and then the other hole I put sheet metal screw through the module hole through my plate into the engine bay wall. The plate itself is also mounted to the engine bay wall.
The only thing I didn't do was make a ground from the factory "T" black wire w/white stripe to coil...I wonder if that fried the module. I have a friend that has a MSD Blaster Coil I'm going to borrow to see if I can get it to fire...probably take my module back to Autozone to see if they can test it as well...

Try making it EXACTLY as pictured. There's no reason it won't work, its a very simple system.

It fixed my issue, which was a bad ignitor. That's all the GM HEI swap is; a cheap fix for a bad stock ignitor.

If you have a no-start condition, always try jiggling your ECU connectors and your injector harness first.
