Turbo performance advice
I have the original factory turbo on my '83 280zxt. I was hoping to get a little more HP and torque after a couple of exhaust improvements and tuning adjustments on a dyno. I do have a new direct wired fuel pump. No intra-cooler.

is there a question there or are you just bragging? put in a boost controller and run your boost up to 10 psi youi will see a real HP increase. 163 HP is laughable. stock out of the box on an n/a is like 145 I believe the turbo was like 180 so you aren't even better than what was.
I was just looking for advice to improve performance, and listing the dyno results were, and yes I thought it was close to what was supposed to be, but the "old" numbers were lower than what factory was. A boost controller and intra-cooler were suggestions, but I didn't know if the factory turbo is designed for intra-cooler, or even if it was kaput and needed replacement.
intracooler is nice but not necessary as I doubt you are intending to build a 300+ HP monster L28. put a boost controller on it and you will notice a big difference as did I when I Boosted my 81. 45 bucks and some hose will do it. and a lot easier to install than on a Z31.
Remember to remove the emergency release valve (POV) from the intake... otherwise the only thing it will do is chirp and jerk like a chipmunk on steroids.
You will also need a boost gauge because the stock one isn't going to tell you anything over stock boost, so you won't know where to set it.
Other easy things would be to swap to the Z31T ecu / maf, ignition upgrade, and INTERCOOLER (not intracooler).
