T3/T4 needs an external Wastegate

I have a T4/T4 60 trim available to me in great condition for a great price. But, I will need an external wastegate. What would be the best way to run one with the stock exhaust manifold?

Could I get by without one for a while with the factory pop-off valve on the intake manifold set at 8psi?

Could I use the housing with the internal wastegate on the factory turo and rebuild the other using it to have an internal wastegate?

Thanks. I am a little green on turbos with Z cars, and non industrial applications.

nope nope and noooo..... dude, just get a port drilled in in one of your exhaust runners near or on the collector section of your exhaust manifold then have a pipe welded on with a flange for an external waste gate. i recommend using TiAL. its a day job probably not to expensive. and not much down time on the 260. its not your dd is it?

^^^ What he said.

Just get your external wastegate setup. Using the emergency release valve on the intake as your boost regulator would be a nightmare. It flutters like an insane chipmunk & absolutely kills performance (it's acting like a huge hole in your intake mani).

I didn't think I would get lucky to use that. Sounds good theoretically. But, I am sure it does not work well.

Hybridz mentioned something like this too. It's a spacer with a port in it. Welding onto cast iron works like poo most the time.

their are proper procedures when welding on cast iron. not alot of people follow it so it ends up cracking

Even when heating the cast iron to the proper temp while watching with a heat gun, and then welding you can have issues. After a few years of heat cycles you have cracks again, where the stock unit may have lasted a millennium.
I like the idea of the spacer. I might go the route of welding onto the factory manifold if it comes down to it.
