Rebuild question

Hey I recently came into possession of a (presumably broken) L28E... for FREE.

If were to attempt to rebuild it, wait for it, as an L28ET, what sorts of things would I run into, and is this a feasible thing to try to accomplish? I know I've got to get different pistons and mess around with a turbocharger... not to mention everything else people need to do if they swap engines.

I'm interested in doing this because it would mean I could do any and whatever engine mods I want on the new engine without ever putting my car "on the shelf" while I work if you know what I mean.

thanks.

I've also posted this several times:

-Entire EFI harness (including all relays)
-Coil ignition harness
-ECU
-Fuel pump module
-AFM
-Distributor
-Oil pump w/ distributor shaft
-Coil bracket w/ ignitor
-Fuel pump

Optional parts that would facilitate the process:
-Intake manifold
-AAC / EGR actuator pump (only if you want those items to work)
-AFM to turbocharger accordion connector boot
-Thermostat housing w/ all sensors
-CHTS (if current chassis doesn't have one)
-TPS (n/a is 3 prong, turbo is 2 prong)

Those are all the bare essential components. If you were to buy all that individually at a junk yard, it would probably take you 20hrs+ to remove it all (the actual turbo & oil pan being the worst parts), and I imagine you'd be spending $500-$800 unless you find someone cool enough to just give you a flat rate for a wheelbarrow full of parts. I can usually source a complete L28ET (in the USA) for less than $500. I've done many motor swaps, turbo and n/a, and mixes of all... and when I say it's easier and cheaper to source a complete motor, that's because it is, but you now have the list, so I hope that helps.

I think you might have misunderstood my question, but thanks that helps.

This is your question, no?

#1: This is a very vague [question?].
If you do everything correctly, and everything is mechanically sound, you should run into little to no problems. The warning I give everyone is: the L28E has a much higher CR than the L28ET. As boost rises, so does CR. A quick CR calculation will show that boosting a stock L28E over 4-6psi will raise the CR quite a bit.

#2: Anything is possible with enough money, time, and knowledge. I gave you a list of what to do.

so theoretically, as long as I do (something, not necessarily create an L28ET) to keep the CR down, the engine will be safe?

and all I'm saying is that I can't find any threads where people are trying to rebuild the engine as turbo-capable, but LOTS where they're doing upgrades or swapping.

Thanks for looking, though.

The 81-83 L28E flat top piston engine has an 8.8:1 CR. The L28ET has a 7.4:1 CR. I'm not sure how you plan to magically "keep the CR down"...

Play with this: Engine Design Utility

I take it you didn't click / read this? He converted is L28E to a turbo:
