L28ET engine rebuild question

Hi there, quick question. Long story short, when I stripped my block before sending off to the machine shop, I removed all frost plugs/ oil gallery plugs, etc. I also removed the one near where the oil filter attaches on the side of the block. Anyways, it broke (shocking).
What have you guys done to replace it ?
Cheers and thanks !

Freeze plugs

Freeze plugs are made with brass or steel. Both are good to use. If the steel is a stainless steel I would choose thoose. Other wise it's not a big deal

I assume he's talking about the threaded plug just up and left of the oil filter port

Ebay engine pic: ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-...258#vi-content )

Drill it, extract it, take it to your local nuts/bolts store and have them match it. Or buy a new one from NISSAN.

Or let the machine shop deal with it.

that is exactly the one I am talking about, I have the freeze plugs for everything else. For some reason, I seemed to recall it being a more than just a plug.
Sounds good, thanks all !
cheers

You aren't re-tapping anything.

Or, depending on your welding skills, you could weld a bolt on the end & back it out that way.

Make sure you've soaked it overnight w/ PB BLASTER.

the piece is already out, I couldn't recall if it was more than just a plug or something else that served some purpose !
from the sounds of it, it's nothing more than a plug.
Cheers

no, I had to break it to remove it. But my memory is a little foggy now (I have a 4 month old--- baby brain) and started on this last year. for some reason I thought it was more than just a frost plug. But from you guys here, sounds like it is just a frost plug and serves no other purpose !!

Eh? It's not a frost plug... it's a threaded cap for oil. Freeze plugs are needed due to block casting. When you get a rebuild done from a machine shop, they glue temperature indicators onto the freeze plugs so if you overheat the motor, then bring it back to them saying they did a crappy job, they will point to the melted indicators and show you the door.

okay, I finally went out and looked at it, it's the 'PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE' that I've been talking about (the little ball and spring) at the oil filter. They don't have that piece at the dealerships any more around here. I have another l28e in the garage, hopefully the spring isn't broken.
