problem(s)

I said before my engine has trouble starting when cold, so i replaced the air reg, and the cold start valve... It still seems to have trouble starting when cold and also when it is warmed up. When the engine is cold it kind of stutters when accelerating when i first start. Also the car idles a little rough for a few seconds when it finally starts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

your idle screw could be set a lil too low.. it should idle ~ 1100 in neutral.. the idle screw is on the bottom of the passenger side of the throttle body

My '80 ZX had the same problem, just tweak the screw, and viola! Perfect! I actually have mine idling around 1250 in neutral, but that's for smother starts, but on gas milage=not so good. Hey JfairladyZ, if you take a peek in here, do you think I should up the idle more for that race, I was thinkin around 1400, is that too much?

No, you should be alright with that idle, but you can take it up to 1500 but it's going to be loud. And don't set it until after you got the car running. Guys, I have my idle set at 700RPM! I think specs only say like 900RPM. It's a 6cyl. not a 4. Mines an 81, so different years might be different. Anyways, no starting problems here with that idle, but my ignition system is in primo condition, so that helps. Oh let me rephrase that part about the idle, 1100 is probably right for a cold engine, mines at 700 when warm.

And newb, check the air gap in your distributor and also make sure your thermotime switch is good if the idle thing doesn't work out. And did you replace it with a new air regulator? I went through three bad used ones, inc. the original, before I finally just manned up and bought a new one.
