v8 swap tranny
You can use any manual that will bolt up to a Chevy small block. I don't know if there's a mount kit for a manual tranny though. You'll probably have to fabricate something. Custom driveshaft too. The camaros and firebirds had decent trannies. You could go all out and get the Tremec T56. That thing will handle pretty much anything you can throw at it. Comes with at a price though, it ain't cheap.
your best bet would be to go with a corvet set up the mounts for the trany are not hared to make. but manual thats a lot of work auto is the way to go thats what i did in my z31 700r4 it was fast and it would bring the front of the ground.
Mounts aren't hard to fabricate for the tranny at all. If you don't know how to weld, you should have someone else do it. The tranny mount isn't nearly as difficult as the engine mounts are to align. Any driveline/quality welding shop should be able to modify a driveshaft to fit your application. It's just a matter of cutting it to length and putting the proper yoke on the ends. I feel ya on the manual thing.

Woman shouldn't be distracting you while you're driving anyways
teh.. I am only a couple days away from getting my Z back... At first I was going with the 700R4, but now I may have something different
I don't want to spoil it and sound like a jackass if it ends up not fitting!
