Intermitten issues

boy do I have a strange one on my hands
the car is a 80 na 5 speed

at random my cars starts to hesitate for lack of a better word.
I can be driving along, and is feels like the transmission slips for about a second, speed and tach don't change, and I dont get a "clunk" that you would expect if it was the tranny.

It will do this at any speed, and in any gear. (hard to tell if it happens in first, I dont spend much time in that gear )

the outside temp does not matter. It has happened when it was 45 and 75.
the car temp does not matter. once it happens, it will do it until I power off the car.

If I let the car sit for about 5 minutes and start it back up, it does not have the same issue.

Im at a complete lost as to where to even start looking.

Engine hesitating and transmission slipping are two completely different things. If a trans (clutch) is slipping, the engine will rev while in gear.

When was the last time the engine had a REAL in depth tune up?
Spark plugs? (and read plugs?) ONLY USE NGK'S
Cap & rotor?
Plug Wires?
Air filter?
Clean sensor connections?
Check / clean AFM? CHTS? O2 sensor?
Check timing?
etc etc etc ...

I know, but its the best way to describe the issues. The engine does not rev,
When was the last time the engine had a REAL in depth tune up?.
to tell the truth, no clue.

Spark plugs? (and read plugs?) ONLY USE NGK'S.
Plugs passed the visual inspection.

Cap & rotor?.
did not see anything wrong.

Plug Wires? .
again. nothing visual, did not make sure all had spark.

Air filter? .

Clean sensor connections? how. where would I find this in the FSM.
Check / clean AFM? CHTS? O2 sensor?
Check timing?
etc etc etc ...
.
If any of the above was at fault. would it not happen all the time?

Mechanical problems are constant. Electrical problems can be intermittent.

Ive seen this statement on multiply threads.

1. What is so special about NGK's? Why use them over Bosch, autolite ect...

2. Which NGK plug?
NGK Copper Core
NGK V-Power
NGK G-Power
NGK Iridium IX
NGK Platinum

This is my DD, and I put almost 100 miles a day on it. Im not long to "go fast" I want good gas mileage

NGK's are the industry standard for almost all Japanese and German engines (and almost all foreign engines in general). The Nissan spec is to use NGK's.

spark plug gap

I pulled the plugs today to check them. they were the correct NKG, but the gap was way off.

I don't think the were ever gapped. out of the 6, 1 was correct, but the reset were set between .05 -.06.

Once they were correctly gaped, most of the problem disappeared.

It still hesitates, but only between 30-45 now.

I also noticed that my ignition coil does not look right. It's too small to fit in the rings, so the po added a section of rubber tubing

could this be part of the problem also?
