depends on local laws. technically, it is a federal offense to disable your smog devices, but the feds never check.

You'd get busted pretty quick by the police for noise levels tho... one day a long time from now I'm going to build a side dump pipe for track use on the Z.

Anyway... hopefully you can find a muffler shop willing to make that bend over the rear cross member. Technically you could have it running on the bottom side, but any dip, driveway, or speed bump you go over will prolly hit it.

yeah, i was thinkin about that, cause my suspensions pretty soft. it wouldn't take much to bottom it out on something.

a lil off subject. i was reading in my haynes manual and lookin in the z store and i noticed that they sold PCV pipe breathers. but the haynes manual shows that the PCV is connected to the intake manifold and the crank case. But the PCV pipe breather gave me the impression that the hose connecting the PCV to the crankcase could be removed and plugged at the intake and a breather put on the crankcase without any negative ramifications. am i wrong here?

I already took the hose off the valve cover and put a breather filter on it and plugged the hole on the intake. It didn't have an adverse effect. The engine just idles lower now. Am i doing damage to my engine with this little mod?

A lot of people (me included) use a filter on the valve cover. You should prolly keep the PCV valve hooked up tho. By all means do not cap it on the block side... the block does need to vent blow-by gases.

yeha if you want you can use a fliter off the hole in the block for the crankcase ventilation wehn your moving it will create a vacumme but not as effective as leaving it hooked up to the intake mani, i have a breather on the valve cover but its breaking

Controls the idle. Bleach bypassed it somehow... I tried to bypass it on mine, but the car wouldn't even idle... and I have the Z31 ecu which doesn't even use the AAC valve!

if i put a boost controller on and set it to ten i'm gonna have to remove that E-Valve. Do they make adjustable E-valves that fit the stock threads? or at least, ones set to a higher PSI?

Side Note: Are there Lift kits available for the Z-cars?

Greddy makes an adjustable one for about $100. You can also modify yours, or remove it if you have a reliable boost controller / wastegate.

yeah. sorta. You remember the olde school american muscle cars? back when the supercharger and the turbo carb had just started to get popular. Well, i was out in the parkin lot after workin on my rear end and i got up to go in and noticed how it looked with the rear jacked up in the air.

And it reminded me of those olde school growlers. I really like the way it looks. So i wanna lift it up on the rear end some. Maybe not as much as the ramps did, but enough to get that look.

Maybe a lift kit is goin a bit far. Possible some Very large rear tires/rims instead. Whats the largest rim you can put on a z?

But these aren't old school AMERICAN cars. And you need to understand how the rear suspension works. If you lift the rear, the arms swing down and you get a lot of positive camber (looks super goofy).

damn. i guess i didn't think about that part. Well. the idea was only about 30 mins old anyway.

Wait a second. Do the rear swing arms attach to the unibody? or to a plate that attaches to the unibody? If they attach to a plate, couldn't you get a second plate like that one, and extend it down via solid frame. Then reattach the stock swingarms? You'd have to either get longer rear struts, or block them off a bit lower on the frame. Dang....that seems like a hell of a lot of work.

Nevermind all that. I'll just lower the front end and get fatter rear tires.

It'll also put too much angle on the rear axle u-joints and lead to premature failure.

There are many options... Bleach and Rod both had 18's on their 280zx's. You'll need spacers / wheel adapters to do so tho.

I had my Z's rear end up, for quite a few months. Mainly because of the struts and springs, I put on. Were out of the '83. And somebody put spacers in the springs. So they didn't have to replace the struts. The ride was stiff, but it had to much body-roll through the corners. And made the center of gravity off. I didn't like it, and the fact my handling was crappy. Yeah they aren't muscle cars, they are sleek sportscars. And I like mine low, and even all around. My Firebird has the rear end jacked up, with 50 series tires. She looks mean as can be. But that is what she was made for. Not the Z's, just my thoughts anyway.
