You'll wish you kept the a/c next summer... My drive to LA would have been a lot more comfortable with a/c.

not many Z-cars after 1981 had t-tops. It was a pretty rare option available only to the filthy rich

oh yeah, i know its gonna be ruff in the thick of summer, but i rocked it without it this long so ole well. Besides, my 280zxt is my "fun Machine". You don't take your AC to the beach do ya? so i don't need it in my Zed.

I dunno what i bumped when i was takin all that AC stuff out but my oil pressure guage started workin normally again. usually at idle it would read Zero till you gave it throttle. Now it reads just under half at Idle. Is that normal?

Mine reads straight up and down at an idle on both my ZX's, then pushes to the line above that easily once the rpm's start to climb.

maybe you bumped the connector on the oil pressure sender unit.
unplug it and make sure it is clean and not oily

My thanks goes out to Thxone for his thread on Cheap BOVs. Now my car goes "RIIIiiiice!!". Too bad its an auto tranny runnin stock pressure. You really gotta get on it hard for the BOV to even engage. Oh well. Manual boost controller to follow as soon as my new Boost gauge gets in.

yeah. just to test it out though. i'ma pick up some new lines when the Gauge gets here. THat might be why i had to get on it so hard, cuz the hose i used was a bit too big and just barely fit tight enough.

got a mechanical boost guage and put it in. works great. BOV working good still. Car cranks and runs good, gets warm, starts loping bad at idle. this problem sounds annoyingly familiar...

well, i guess i'll take snows advise and pick up some electrical connector cleaner. Seemed to work for him. maybe it'll work for me too.

Believe it or not wd-40 works good for cleaning the contacts. Trust me I know I have used it. Also the Z guru here used it on my Z. When helping me dial for emissions last year. And I use it when I feel my fuel system is not working correctly.

Oh yeah also using it with a toothbrush, does the trick.

and a sturdy pin!!!! so you can bend the mini spade clip connectors so they point inwards a bit. so they clamp and help connect. i used a furniture slider lol, had the perfect size nail/pin for the job

i also made sure all the connectors were flush with the front, sometimes they start to get pushed back in the clip so they make a poor contact.

alright gentlemen and ladies. Got that pop valve yanked out (god my knuckles hurt now) and my MBC installed as well (that damn turbo was hot as hell on my knuckles.....again) and a mechanical boost guage that reads to 15psi (the only thing i didn't hurt myself installing). intalled the MBC and turned it three notches from closed and tested it out, only to immediately stop and turn it back down from 30+ psi (rough esimate due to the way the needle on my boost guage jumped way the hell on the far side and kept going.) on only one notch the needle still jumps over to 15 and bounces when i get on it from stop. i can ease into it when i'm on the high way and it levels at around 10-13 psi. I tried to roll into it from a dead stop to see how the accelleration was at 10 psi and the car went "woooooAAA-A-A - POW!!!" I slammed the brakes, threw on the hazards and comenced damage analysis........No damage. Correction, no Obviouse damage. Car still runs just like always. But what the hell was up with that backfire? i know the stock system can't handle alot of boost, but uh....any z-vets wanna tell me what happened there?

(just to re-itterate a point made earlier on z-driver: Don't buy cheap equipment. buy an electronic boost controller. they are safer and far more accurate.)

Well folks, Rumbles no longer my car. So for me, this is where the widow-maker project ends. Perhaps his new owner will take up the vigil, but for me, its time to start working on Lady (260z Fairlady).
