Where to start!

Ok, so I've got together the "to do" list for the 1978 280Z I've got.

The major stuff list:

1. Carb jets & adjustments (<$100)
2. Exhaust, Header ~$300 (should help reap benefits of Mikunis & hi-flow filters)
3. Exhaust, pipes, cat & muffler (TBA, great local exhaust guy can do)
4. Springs, $200 from Arizona Z Car
5. KYB GR-2 shocks $180
6. Rear hatch replacement
7. Treat body rust

My biggest question is where to start.

I think exhaust, then carbs since the carbs will have to be adjusted again after I make a complete exhaust change.

Everything else seem about right in the order I've got them.

Any input?

JM

1. Convert it BACK to EFI. Lol.
2. Go with the MSA setup, it sounds so mean. It will really open up the L28 too.
3. ^
4. S13 Coilovers. Just do it.
5. ^
6. Fiberglass. http://www.zforceproductions.com/ind...d=52&Itemid=70
7. How much body rust are we talking?

I say if the rust isn't serious, get the car running and sounding real good, then take care of the cosmetics.

Body rust isn't bad, worst on the rear hatch to the point of replacement is a better solution that trying to repair. Everything else is manageable with basic sanding, cleaning and painting.

The MSA headers looked to be a good buy. Reason I was going with the local guy, is he's one of those that drives your car up on a lift, looks at it for a minute, grabs whatever size pipe you requested, goes to bending and walks back over and it usually fits the first time. He doesn't charge much either.

I'll research the S13 coilovers and see what that's like to do.

I'll be that Zforce piece is nice, but I can get a decent condition used hatch locally for $200 that is complete with glass and everything.

I also forgot to mention I plan on doing a rear disk conversion to.

Another rear hatch will rust again. Water gets inside of it and rusts from the inside out. The MSA stuff isn't very expensive and so worth it in my opinion but if your guy is good and cheap go with that.

What kind of rear disc conversion are you doing?

Haven't decided yet, but simple is good. Likely just getting calipers & disks from a S130 will be the task. I *might* consider the Toyota disk/caliper upgrade too.

Think you will need S130 hubs as well for that conversion but I am not 100% sure on that.
