Serious Problem - Help
Just got back from Chicago with my new 72 240. Car was rustproofed when new by Ziebart but they obviously can't stop everything. I didn't put this car on a rack before getting it home, so please no criticism Here's what I found at the right front swaybar mount. Looks like I need to have a new box section fabricated and welded in place. Also whoever does the work will need to build in sway bar mounting points.
Should this go to a body shop or a frame shop?
I'm going to contact the seller about "sharing" the cost, hopefully he's as upstanding as he seemed. I really don't believe he knew about this damage as he swapped some home remodeling for the car 3 months ago.

Wow! That is pretty major... too bad you didnt' just look under the car a little while it sat on the ground. How else would you even know if it had a major oil leak? Anyway, good luck on the repairs.

Contact Charlie Osborne at Zedfindings (www.zedfindings.com). He sells new frame rails and then you just have to get a shop to do the work, no fabricating involved.

I agree with texasz ! If the frame rail is this weak to fail to that level , the entire section must be replaced and at least strengthend. The sheet metal looks so thin that there is not much to weld to. Find a good certified welder to do the work if at all possable.

Body shop can hande but have $$, this will get expensive. You will have to evaluate if it is worth it once you check the rest. You need to get at the top of the monocoque in the wheel wells and along the body going down to the control arms.
Good luck, & hope you do not find any more bad spots. Look at my photo gallery as I believe you will see some detail
