RPM shut off

Hi,
I'm new and apologize if this has been brought up before - I've searched but couldn't find anything.

I bought a 280z in October and it's been running okay- it needs a little work, but ran fine. I left the lights on one night and ended up jumping it in the dark (bad idea)- long story short, the cables got crossed and fried the stereo. From what I can tell, everything else works well (even some things that didn't used to work, now do) but the major problem is that now, whenever it hits about 3000-3500 rpm it completely shuts off. Does anybody know what might be causing this? It needs an oil change, but I doubt that would have any role in why it's doing this.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to ZDriver!!!

Usually when the jumper cables are crossed, it fries the ecu (computer). I'm surprised it runs at all. Start checking all the basics though: timing, spark plugs, AFM connection, vac hoses, ecu connections, etc. If nothing changes, then you might want to get your hands on another ecu.
