Rebuilt Engine in a 1976 280z

I have a 76 280z with a rebuilt engine, new plugs and Dist.rotor ect. The spark plugs keep getting fouled out and it smokes really rich. replaced the spark plugs and distrib. again. Still is running rich and sputtery. The timing was done by ear. Could someone please help.

Welcome to ZDriver!

First, check ALL sensor connections to make sure they are secure and free of corrosion. The coolant temp sensor in the thermostat housing and the O2 sensor (if your car has one) are the main sensors that control a/f mixture. Also check your AFM. Under the black cover is a sweeper arm attached to a carbon track (potentiometer) to measure air flow. You can re-adjust it (we have a write up in the General Tech area).

checked sensors

thanks for the info. While I was checking everything I found that someone had cut the wires on the water temperature switch. I have been looking for a replacement part but so far no luck. Any advice as to where I could get one?
