racing question
I am wanting to race my 260z about once a month for fun in solo 2 in the local scca club but my parents think that it will put too much stress on my car. so I want to know if it will or not. It has racing struts, camshaft, other stuff in the engine (owner did not know) but no roll bar. give your input please
As long as you keep your car up it should be fine but if you have any issues (rust, worn out suspension, brakes, etc.) then you might want to get that fixed but you should be fine if your car is up to its stuff. It will put some added stress on your car but Zs were made to handle so it shouldn't ever be a problem (by more stress I mean more than average street driving). I autocross my Z31 on occasion and it hasn't ever had a problem. The only real issue is the driver if you are up to your stuff then you should be in clear weather if not don't get into autocross by yourself without a driving school or lessons.

thanks, there is a bit of damage under the center of the passenger side floorboard (pushed up about an inch from running over somthing in the past) which I will have fixed in the future. my car was raced more than 10 years ago, and having sit for 5 years before november
The audi driving school will really help. where do you autocross at? I am getting involved in an extremely small autocross track that is in the high schools parking lot here its good for practice its low speed with lots of turns.
Oh well then you need to get it so you can drive it lol. Well I shouldn't say that my Z has been in bits and pieces in my garage for over a month now doing a tune up and other assorted things. I really am doing alot of work so its on down time, and before that I did lots of work on the brakes, suspension ,and fuel system so its been down alot since August. I really want my Z back
because I am having to drive a FWD 2.0 Litre Jetta everyday and it is nothing compared to my Z.

I personally never have any problems racing the my Z. I do change my fluids often and make sure all my zerk fittings are greased (last year I changed my oil every 4 events or so, and greased my ball joints at the same time). My current race car is also a stock n/a z31, so I don't use the brakes much. As long as you keep up with maintenance the only thing that you'll have problems with are the tires, which... well... duh. As you learn to drive better your tire wear will get better.
The only major problem I've had from racing my Z was when a mechanic forgot to tighten down a battery and it pushed the wiring harness into the header and melted it.
