thinking of starting a SMALL bussiness

welding isn't the only liability. What if you fix someone's brakes and then 2 weeks later one of the hoses you replaced has a leak... they loose pressure and go through a stop light causing a 3 car accident.
A friend at work had that happen to her Jeep. The mechanic was liable for the repair and accident. Any engine failure can come back to you... also, people are stupid and greedy and there is a thing called "fraudulant lawsuit" which you may have happen to you, especially since you're over 18. good luck!

Your best bet would just be to find some friends or people who don't want to pay a shop and just help them with small things. Alot of people as I've come to realize don't want to have just anyone work on their cars. That's why so many people will take their cars to the dealer. They just don't think anyone can do the job, if they see some kid they probably won't want to do business regardless of experience. I know my Uncle who is a mechanic is the kind of person that thinks no matter what I do is that I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm just a kid to him who thinks he knows what he's doing.

you guys blow. lol. and yeah, your friend at work is a woman thats why she crashed. lol. you would most definatly notice a leak in a line and only one brake system would fail, still got the other one, and it wont be instintaneous, let alone both brakes go out at the same time, she probably neglegted a changing feeling in the brake pedal. and plus was it teh hose that failed? if so.... thats a parts failure not a mechanic failure. tell your friend at work shes a biotch. lol. jk.

I love the ban-ation of the snowman.
Dude, save yourself the liability. Seriously. You're a good kid, but people will screw you... Stay away from working on cars for money.
Rod.

The mechanic lifted the jeep and then installed longer brake hoses but they were too long and the mechanic failed to see that the hose rubbed the front tires. Doubtful a woman would see a leak considering they had to rub through first and probably leaked very fast while driving once the hole was there. The loss of both your front brakes (when the master cylinder suddenly sucks air) is pretty much instantanious. The rear drums are all that you have at that point. You ever try yanking up on your parking brake while going 45+mph in a 4wd vehicle that weighs 2 tons. See how fast you stop...
also, if you install new brake hoses in a shop and they fail, a stupid customer might just file a lawsuit and win. That's why you have liability insurance for your business to pay for lawsuits like that. yay!
