Okay dokay... this thread got off topic pretty quick.

Does anyone do stock trading, or have a money market? I've been using www.sharebuilder.com for a year now. I started w/ $25 and bought stocks in 6 diff companies. I put an equal amout into each company stock (about $4.5 each) and now my total is just over $42. It was up to $45 a couple weeks ago. As you can see below... they have really changed. Precious Tripath was down to 3 cents a share for a while. Thus is the stockmarket. I plan on keeping these stocks for a couple years to see how they run, and then invest in some others, along w/ creating a 401K plan through my work.



I've also seen that most banks offer high interest Money Markets for free (or as long as there is $1000+ in the accnt). Most of them are 4% or higher right now... meaning they pay you 4% of what is in your account, every month. Just something to think about.

Also, recently there have been a lot of internet pyramid schemes going on, called HYIP's that promise 150% to 300% return of your $ in just a couple days. I had to try it out when I first heard about that. I didn't put very much money in, because it was pretty risky... and indeed, they take your $ and run. It's a website put together to pay out quick, and they do pay at first. Some people have made $500K+ in just a short time... but when the creator desides there is enough $ in the scheme, he yanks the plug & the money is gone. It's VERY risky, because no one knows when it will stop, and your money waiting to be paid back to you is gone.
-Morals of that story:
#1 if it sounds too good to be true: it is.
#2 get rich quick schemes RARELY work

 

You can make a couple hundred dollars for free off of those 0% balance transfer with no fee offers. Basically you do a balance transfer of say $5000 to a credit card with 0 balance. Then you have a -$5000 balance. Request a check for the negative balance and put it in a high interest savings acount. After a year when the 0% offer ends, pay off the balance and do it again.

You are basically earning interest on money you borowed at 0% . My regular savings account is 4.95%. There are some negatives so research first before you do it.

My side cash cow has been online poker though.

 

I'm wrapping up my degree in biology at San Diego State. I'm planning to take the DAT in August and hopefully get into dental school. (yippee 4 more years of school!) Anyway, for part time work, I am at Sears doing stockroom stuff, but that's gonna change as I'm volunteering at a dental clinic and will probably soon be working there instead of providing free slave labor.

 

I am only a Junoir in highschool, but I work for a company called Aerial NDT, its a non destructive testing company. We check carnival rides and Ski lifts for safety. But when I get outta highschool I either want to continue doing what Im doing now, but I really want to become a BMW technician.

i worked at a bmw store/repair shop in phx YEARS AND YEARS AGO--1968-69---i was the only chik in the place--did billing., rounding up of deadbeats, and deliveries, etc. was fun.

 

I know this is an old thread, but figured I'd bring it back to life since it was referenced in a similar thread.

I contract a wildland fire engine with the Forest Service during the summer. I have 2 engines now, but need to wait for the next open bid process to come out in 2 more years before I can add the 2nd engine to my contract. Some summers are good for us, some are bad. Since I'm only hired on a call when needed agreement, it's always a gamble spending money before fire season starts, to get necessary insurances and inspections etc in place. In a busy season we can go anywhere in the US to fight fire. So far I've fought fires in OR, WA, CA, ID, MT, NV, AZ, UT, and FL. In the off season I was running the local volunteer fire department for nearly 10 years, then decided it was time to take a break for that for a little while. Sometimes I go to neighboring volunteer fire departments and teach wildland firefighting classes, and usually put my 4x4 to use in the winter pulling people back onto the road, or out of snowbanks for $25-$50/pullout. I also take extra fire training classes during the early spring when they come available to make my resume more complete, and to make my crew safer on the fireline.

 

how often are the people you pull out of snow banks from california?

 

I've pulled a few from Cali out over the years, usually it's locals though. People keep trying to drive around here when the drifts fill in the roadside ditches making it nearly impossible to keep track of where the road actually is. Suddenly they drop nearly out of sight in the deep ditch powder lol. I had a Jeep Cherokee, and a 4x4 mini truck stuck in the ditch right up the street from my house this morning when I woke up (could see them in the ditch from my bedroom window) lol.

 

Just an update on my "test" stocks. My Tripath shares were down to $.01 for quite a while... Etelos reverse merged into Tripath & now those stocks are worth $7.67 today. Also notice how my OPLK share was $20 and now worth $4.
