The Job / Money / Education Networking Thread

For those in the job market, in school, or wanting to be doing something else... it's helpful to hear what other people are doing & get some ideas.

So this thread is dedicated to helping us in: getting jobs, opinions, deals, making money, or otherwise helping each other out.

-What I do:
I work for a private healthcare company that focus' on self pay hospital account receivables. In short, I help hospitals recover funds from patient accounts who don't have health insurance, but at the same time, help patients get their bills covered by applying for Medicaid, Crime Victims, SSI Disability, County Assistance, etc. For the most part, it's a job to get me through college, but it is a good job to move up to management positions... so I don't know if I'll stick around once I grad. Right now I'm working on a Bachelor's in Spanish, but once I get that degree, I have no idea what to do.

Real Estate? Translator? Start my own business? Vagabond? Who knows...

Anyway... post away with what you are all doing in life (job / education related).

$5k every 2 to 3 months = $20k to $30k a year.... not really the way to retire by 30.

Me? Having the worst time of my life making 7 an hour at the BK lounge. But this spring I SHOULD have a job running a bobcat and loading cement for a concrete company and making around 10 an hour.

But as for future jobs and college, no idea, maybe something with music?

Lol a Dane Cook fan?

Im working for HP...and before the merger Compaq for about 7.5 years...mostly helpdesk though Im tech lead now (running tech side of the helpdesk)
Good money but could be better...starting to look to move now.

I started out on a farm and have done a lot of physical things, spray mixing, furniture removal, labouring. What I have learnt is that you dont have to wear a suit to earn a lot of money...in fact a suit doesnt guarantee you mucho money.

i am a nursie--worked 30 years hi tek nursing with HP and other cardiac monitoring equipment--ER, and post anesthesia recovery. the latter was mainly managerial duties. when they finally broke me i was making 40$/hour.
now i am waiting for ssdi--my 1 year on cali sdi will be done 12/11/06--thn i collect zero income. holysh--. i am not ready for this. i am paying 1 year rent on my mooring, storage, and whateer else i am able to so do, as i willl be HURTIN--i do not know how lng before i am allowed to collect my broken nursie money. (funeral dirge plays.....)

oh--that 40/hr was in LA, baby

what suit?

wanna know what is sick????? my 1 year on sdi was at 1/2 what i made the lat year i worked. i had a 86k year. lowest i had had in 4 years.

i do not usually do this kind of confession, but since y'all asked---go to nursie school and grow up top be a very hi paid nursie--then retire at a reasonable age of 45 or 50 and ENJOY life.

i ddidn't do that.

now i gotta find something to do to supplement the ssdi income so i don't go more broke than i already am! suggestions????

b300--my grandfather was a mechanical engineer--summa *** laude, Rensselear Polytechnic institute--invented the atomic cannon--worked with tesla-----yada,yadda-----do something awesome, man. ida been a engineer except i am dyslexic with numbers and can only remember them--not even inthe right order. but i grew up to be a nursie, instead. go figger.

I am VP of Operations with at Janitorial Company. I handle the unemployment and workers compensation issues, along with safety training for all locations, basically a human resources job with a VP title to make it sound like i make a lot of money. If you enjoy nailing fired employees to the wall with evidence that you had a right to fire them, now that is fun. You would not believe the lies fired employees will tell at an unemployment hearing to try to get unemployment. So basically, i never have two days alike, something new all the time.

Hey Bleach...

Forget about the Chili's thing, I thought of something even better for you.

Three's a smokin' hot chick working at the In 'n' Out burger in Temecula... It's about forty miles up the road. She drives a black '83 280ZX Turbo!

You should get a job there! Besides, Temecula is much cheaper than Scripps Ranch to live in anyway's

Thas what I'm talkin about baby! Side work brings in the play money. I've done quite a few "fix n flips" on cars too. Usually freebies that just need a few things & I turn around and sell them for $1K+

Well, its a thought. Too bad its not on the way from seattle to LA... if so I could have stopped by to invite her to the show. I like meeting women in a far off city and having them join me for a nice day at a Datsun show. maybe I should make a habbit of this

Well, I am a manager of shipping/receiving for a hybrid pharmacy. It pays cool but the best thing I dont really have to do much physical/bitch work. Just a lot of paper work, signing for shipments and audits. I ****en hate audits. Its a start up company (4 years young) so they dont have the funds for the techie toys that make my job a lot easier, not to mention reduce shrink by a lot. On the side I work with my father on full resto's of classic cars. Its cool but working with family sucks. Its like a multi-ethnic version of the Tutles. We always fight. And on top of those im a struggling student at a crapy JC with a long road ahead of me.

I have friends in SanDiego (besides my best bud Rod) that would kill me if I don't stop by after the MSA show. In fact, they are probably going to drive up to the show this next year. They're Datsun truck guys but they appricaite other Nissans. so ya, i'll be down in that area after the show. Then on up to Vegas... maybe

i'm in professional Audio Video. i install and program high end commercial AV systems, like videoteleconfrence rooms, smart classrooms, high tech board rooms, theatres, etc. i play with big plasmas and expensive projectors all day. and i program the control systems that tie it all together. basically anything with an on switch can be controlled from one touchscreen. neat stuff.
