Non-Turbo short shifter for L-series transmissions

Hey there, I've got a short shifter that I pulled out of a 80's Nissan truck that works as a short shifter when it's put into our car transmission.

What's different about it is that it's got a slightly higher pivot point, on top of being shorter than the stock shifter, and it also has an S-bend in it which puts it closer to you, and actually feels better than the stock shifter that goes straight up and down.

I have this shifter installed in my car, and I love it, the only thing you have to get used to is the fact that it takes a little tiny bit more effort to put into gear, but I got used to it in less than a week

I'm asking $60 for it pretty firm because once I'm done with it I'll have a bit of time invested into it (aquiring it, and modifying it to work). INCLUDES INSTALLATION if you're local, of course; if not, then it includes shipping

Also, if you would like me to get you a shifter for you, just let me know, and I'll get one for you in a week or two (depending on availability)

PLEASE NOTE: I will either have to thread the shifter for you, or you will have to glue/JB Weld your **** to it (mine's glued on, and it works fine, super solid) if you want me to thread it, I will add $10 to the price.

PM me for my number, and text is preferred

Price change: $40 each, but the $10 extra still counts if you want it threaded

Can you confirm this shifter will work for the 280ZX 1981 model (non turbo) that came with the close ratio 5sp g/box, not the Borg-Warner T5. Thanks

It will work

sorry for the late reply, my computer died lol

EDIT: if you guys are looking at that little console emblem in my car, just know that my car is NOT a turbo, I just put that in there when I was planning on going turbo and I just like the look of that one better than the stupid little black plastic crap thingy :P

The only thing different on the truck shifter is the length from the pivot up. The bottom is the same as any normal 4 spd shifter lever. You can swap the plastic bushing and spring around to use in either a 4 spd or 5 spd.

But as posted in the thread title, this is only a shortened shifter, NOT a short throw shifter.

no, I've compared it to my stock shifter, and the pivot is higher up, thus creating a shorter throw, on top of being shorter in overall height.

Well, I just took a rough measurement with a ruler (crude, I know, but I didn't want to go out into my dad's shop just for one measurement) and it came up about 1/4" longer on the pivot side than the stock one, not much, but it makes a difference, trust me

This shifter should work in your car, assuming you still have the stock transmission (not a T5 or the like)

The throw on this shifter is considerably shorter than stock, but it still feels solid going in and out of the gears, and you can tell what gear it's in, if you know what I mean...? lol

well to be honest. the z i bought is pretty bone stock. so i dont see why it would have a T5 in it.. but its not like id be able to tell if it did anyways. lol. and i get what you mean. the short shifter i drove was in a piece of crap crx hatch. and youd be in 5th and the shifter would just barely pointing straight up, if not, it was still angled towards you a bit.

oh and are these hard to install? and does it have the stock 8mm threading?

unfortunately, no, it has quite a bit bigger threading on it, but a shifter **** I have off of a Corolla threaded onto it (although make sure your shifter has the plastic threading since I only have U.S. tap and dies...)

does your car have a 4 speed or a 5 speed?

The shifter itself is pretty easy to install, just get all the interior bits out of the way (took like 5 mins for me to get out in my ZX) pop the little snap ring off, slide the pivot rod out, take the shifter out, and then it's a reverse of removal; but make sure that you don't have any clearance issues and that it goes into every gear just fine. (I'm going to do my best to make sure that you don't have any problems with clearance though)

do you mean shift ****? or the actual shift rod thing itself (i know i called that by its wrong name). my current **** is plastic, and the rod thing is metal. i was planning on getting a new shifter anyways. i dont like the one i have now.

make what, the shifter smaller? I guess you could weld a bolt to the top of the shifter that's the correct thread size, that would be the easiest route.
