vg30de to 350 chevy conversion?
#26
I'm getting a carbureted 350 so it would all be easy but the mounts.
To put a vg30 back in would mean a lot of work trans rebuild, all of the wiring is about shot and needs replaced, so it would probably end up costing me more money! I can get a good 350 motor cheap because of my workplace. so really all that leaves is the mounts which i could figure something out with them.
The reason i'm so against replacing vg30 with vg30 is that, with all of the bullshit the 300zx packs into the engine bay, something wouldn't get assembled correctly.
I'm not trying to be "unique" i saw videos online and it was something that i wanted to do.

I'm not asking how to make the swap. I was just asking if someone knew anything about the mounts, and now that i know its custom fabrication the swap probably isnt going to happen. So i'm working on my engine and i'm going to either fix it or just by a used engine.

Has anyone seen a manual for removing heads? i searched but nothing that i was looking for came up. I just want to make sure everything is done right because i'm hoping to have the car back up and running in less than two months. Any help would be great, thanks.

I dont have a service manual. I just dont want to do something that isn't needed to be done to remove the heads. Would removing the cams make it easier to remove the heads, or would it end up being more work having to put everything back together.

Now you do: http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi
And downloadable: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/300zx/

No you don't need to remove the cams to remove the heads... (LOL)
Remove upper plenum, remove lower plenum, unbolt headers, remove timing belt (which requires much of the front end of the motor being disassembled, or you can cut the timing belt since you'll probably be replacing it anyway), remove valve covers, loosen heads appropriately (don't just go removing bolts flat out - you can warp the head that way).

I've been working on figuring out what i haven't taken off to remove the intake manifold. I have the front lose but there's something still holding it in the back. i cant see anything and I'm just wondering what could still be holding it. This is becoming a big headache because the engine is dirty which limits visibility so i cant see whats going on.

there are a few hoses on the very very bottom of the plenum sides. they're very hard to see. a couple long and a couple short. once you can work the front of the plenum up a few inches, you can reach their clamps with needle nose pliers.
fyi, if you don't want to mess with this again, all of those lines can be deleted/rerouted while the plenum is off to make life easier.

there are two "intake plenums". one is the upper, the big one with two throttle bodies attached, and one is the lower. if you have the front loose i can't think of anything that would be holding it in the back. as i recall it was very easy for me to get off. it was two years ago since i was that deep though.
