help! got major fuel odor inside car?

ok, well i had the car inspected and they wouldnt pass it without the cats, so they put them on. before they did the car would boost to 21psi and didnt have the fuel odor, now it only boost's to 15-16psi and smells like fuel really bad inside the car. the car has a computer tune that was done without the cats, could they be causing the problems?

ok, so i see that people are viewing this and not replying, so either they have no clue, or think the answer is posted somewhere else. i searched and found nothing related to my issue, yes there are fuel odor posts but not being caused by my issue. a little help can go a long way here!

Welcome to ZDriver!

I wouldn't say 8 views is a lot of people looking and not answering.

Anyway, do you have an air / fuel ratio gauge hooked up? How is the motor only boosting to 15-16psi when it was boosting at 21 before? Do you have an electronic boost controller? Do you have upgraded injectors? What psi is the fuel pressure? Does the car still run well?

Need more info ....

ok here is what is done to the car: 675rs turbo's, split bolt down pipes, ashspec ecu, nismo 555cc injectors, apollo front mount, dualz intake, z1 hard pipe kit, 1 piece driveshaft, coilovers, adj. shocks, a/r gauge, boost gauge, boost controller, turbo timer. the a/r gauge shows blue, which is extremely rich, and it wasnt before it went to the garage, the turbo's spooled to 21 psi and now it will only hit 15-16 psi. they put cats on it which so far i heard is the problem but that was from people that dont know these cars, it was tuned with out cats and now that they are there it isnt allowing the turbo's to spool and thus dumping fuel that isnt needed? this is my theory but is it your guys or girls also?

Is the smell full time or just when stationary? Did you check the injectors to see if you have a leak?

Try using high flow cats. Are those legal?

I've never heard of them being illegal. As long as it passes the emissions test and there are cats there you're good. Plus what inspector knows the difference?

ok, well i just got the car back from the garage which put a new clutch in, the clutch is a 6 puck ceramic w/ a light weight fly wheel, which it didnt have before. so the car is boosting to 18psi now and the fuel smell isnt as strong, i am so lost. could the flywheel caused it to boost a little higher now?

I think ZLover needs to chime in.... at which time you will be blasted for having a FMIC on a Z32.

have you checked for an actual fuel leak?

is the a/r gauge a wideband?

and whats the stock boost setting for the turbos?

I don't know if he will, to be honest there's so much been done to this car it's nearly impossible to diagnose without physically being there.

If it was tuned without cats then I'd bet you need to re-tune it with cats.

I don't know if it's legal or not. You could live in Turkey for all I know.
