good electric fan?
good electric fan?
https://www.zdriver.com/forums/images/smilies/102.gif does anyone know where i can find a good electric fan for my '90 NT 300zx? the one on there now sounds like a hurricane under the hood. if anyone could let me know where i can find a good one for cheap please let me know.
The stock fan is *widely* accepted as far superior to any electric fan on the market. And any horsepower that an electric would free up is negligible at best.
And omg at your screen name. Are you kidding me? And I truly hope that's not your car in your avatar.

the stock fan moves an amazing amount of air. running the car over some grass or a sandy spot of road will show you that. it's a pretty amazing fan. the downside being that if you don't live in the city, you end up having to clean out the shroud and radiator once in a while, because if you drive down a messy dirt road while it's dry outside, it picks up a lot of stuff because of all the air it moves.
Ford Taurus SHO Electric fan (SHO is slimmer any V6 fan will do tho), Toyota MR2 Electric fans I've been told work well, I assume anything mid/rear engine will have a sufficient E-Fan. You do have a Non-Turbo Z so you probably have less heat in your engine bay and run a lil cooler in general compared to a TT.
Also find a site that specializes in Z's and look for E-Fan kits. I assume as long as it's from a well recommended and known "good" Z site that they will be selling a quality kit.
(Only reason I'd consider one is to get rid of that clutch fan noise, yuck!)

yeah, i hear the air more than the engine not the fan itself. i herd permacool and flex-a-lite are good E-fan companys. its non turbo. and what is wrong with my sn an avatar? honestly i dont care what my sn is. im not gonna spend an hour trying to figure one out thats not taken juss to i can talk on a forum. i would put "ljakshfouhyfa" if i could remember it. also would it be bad if i replaced the front grill with a mesh? ive seen some with it completely removed. but i think if its raining the air filter could get wet an nasty. juss throwin it out there..
Z's have grills?!?!?!?!

To answer the question
Flex-A-Lite makes a couple options for the Z32. I assume you already put in the Koyo or similar radiator? There is a benefit to nearly doubling the cooling capacity of the Z.
Upside:
You no longer need to move so much air. The other benefit is since there isn't as much weight or torque on the water pump shaft the bearings tend to last a bit longer.
Downside:
When electric fans wear out they usually just stop and you won't know until you happen to see the temp gauge climb. So replacing the fan motor should become part of the routine maintenance schedule.
Neutral:
You can set the electric fan to run after the car is shut off for further cooling. Yes the stock fan moves more air whenever the engine rpm is above a certain point, but not at idle, the electric moves more air at idle and yes at 1200 rpm too (with A/C kicking on). After 2500 rpm the stock fan moves more air.
With the double width radiator the stock clutch fan comes awfully close and you really can't use the air guides (stock shroud) without shaving them down, a real pain in the *** btw. A good electric fan will come with a shroud.

thank you, for answering my question and helping with my prob. unlike some of these haters. and after 2500rpm the amount of air the fan moves doesn't matter as much, most likely your gonna be moving anyway. i've herd good things about flex-a-lite. however i have not put in a koyo or similar radiator. also im thinking about taking out my ac condenser an fan, the fan is seized up and the wires are cut and corroded for some reason. but thats another thread somewhere. thanks again for the positive feedback
