gas smell

gas smell

ever since i bought my 300zx its smelled like gas when it runs, recently i realized how bad it really smells, you cant really tell inside the car but if your standing near it or driving near it it reeks! no leaks so i have no i dea what it could be

If no fuel leaks the next place I would look is exhaust leaks. Though you would usually smell this inside the car.

I would still almost bet there is a fuel leak somewhere if it smells like fuel though.

If it was running rich the O2 sensors would throw a code.

Check your fuel pressure regulators. I've came across a couple of Z's that were leaking fuel from the clamps or hoses.

check your fuel damper assembly's, there are two of them located towards the rear of the engine, they have vacuum lines attached to them. Both of mine were leaking and causing a horrible gas smell in the car and outside as well.

Exaust

Do you have a catalytic converter, a lot of times guys will report a strong gas smell when running test pipes, sometimes the cats burn off that last bit. Worth a look, at least get to a Midus or something, get a free checkup.
