First thing to do

Re: First thing to do
OK...first thing to do is make sure the car is in perfect condition. Modding a car that has problems will cause more problems and is not worth it.
Second, the first upgrade on any Z should be brakes. The stock brakes leave a lot to be desired. And since it'll help keep you from wrecking your Z, you should do them first. For the street, a good package would consist of aftermarket pads (like Axxis Metal Matrix or Hawks), stainless steel brake lines, and Dot 4 fluid (like Motul 600). As far as rotors go, cross-drilled or slotted or both will NOT make your car stop in shorter distances. The more aggressive pad will. But if you feel like getting them, you can. All are sold in a package for around $550-$580 from Paul at Avalon (avalonracing.net) or Phuong at info@eatricezone.com. I believe that Kyle from strictlyz.com (and sponser of this site) will also be able to do it for that price as well.
After that, most opt for an intake of some sort. The JWT intake is the best bang for the buck...around $90 to $100...ask the same guys I just listed. Then you should go for either a cat-back exhaust or a JWT ECU w/boost jets to increase the boost. Or get both if you want. Most will give you a nice deal if you get all 3 mods at the same time. Expect to pay around $1500 for those performance mods plus $580 for the brakes. That should keep you happy...for awhile at least...lol

Re: First thing to do
Thanx for the info....I'm going in tommorow to get the car safetyd and checked over for engine problems. After that I'll look into the mods you told me about I also wanted to ask another question. It seems the ride is exceptionaly rough, I need new back tires badly. Other than that what else should I look at to make the ride more enjoyable.

Well, if your shocks and springs are originals, you might want to change them. They're probably overdue. That could be why the ride seems harsh. A nice set of KYB shocks and Eibach springs should do the trick. But you won't have use of the suspension switch in the car anymore. And you'll need a camber kit for the front if you drop it with the Eibachs (will drop the car .8" and cause the camber to go out of spec in the front). But don't be afraid to go with new stock shocks. They are good (your switch in the car will still work) and you can get them from Courtesy Nissan at 25% off list if you tell them you're a twinturbo.net member (should be for everyone, but tell them anyway). It's really up to you.

Re: First thing to do
I was also wondering if I should get the whole exhaust system done. I can get a good deal for it right now, cats gone, down pipes, the whole system. Is it a good Idea to do this before the ecu upgrade? Also I have an HKS intake that the previous owner put on, is it a good one or should I swap it out with a different one?
