Can anyone ID this connector?
Can anyone ID this connector?
This connector seems to be the cause of a lot of problems for me. It must be going bad but works fairly well once the car is warmed up (loose pins?) I pulled it out for the photo but it is normally tucked behind the radiator hose, hence the dry cracked boot going into the connector.
Obviously I should be replacing my wiring harness by now anyway but I figured I could put a new connector on until then.
Also, if you know what this is can you tell me how the hell it unplugs?
Oh yeah, `90 Z32 NA 2-seater

PTU connector from the looks of it. Search... the PTU and the problems it can cause have been discussed at great length on every Z32 forum.

Connector should just pull apart... (I don't recall it having a retaining pin at all).

I thought it was for the PTU, which was already replaced with the newer one. The connector doesn't want to come apart, though. I was wondering if some dealership did a hack job on the warranty.
agreed. PTU for sure. i do believe mine had retaining pins (i think that's what they're called). i might prefer to call them clips. so, to get mine apart, you find the end of the metal band going around the female end of the connector, pry each end up so that it is no longer wrapping around the connector, but only touching on 3 sides. this pulls the short sides away from the plastic bump outs on the male end that stop it from coming apart. then when you put it back on, just push the clip and let it snap back to where it was.
hell yeah. look at the open end of the connector once it's off. you see 6 or 7 littler connectors. each one is a rectangle with one of the long sides solid and the other long side is broken and angled in. stick an ice pick or something on the outside of each little connector to bend the broken side of the connectors inward just a little. scrape off the inside with the pick while you are in there. scrub them with a tooth brush or something too. tar-nex i believe it's called is a jewelry cleaner and is often recommended for cleaning the connectors with. scrub them with that. then dry them off and put them back together with some dialectic grease. don't forget to scrape the male connectors off too.
thats where I have mine, I left one of the stock plastic pipes that goes to the air box (that you can eliminate after you put a pop charger on) on the driver side, punched a hole in it with a hole punch and zip tied it in there to keep it out of the elements.
